Interesting stuff.
What are you using as filament supplies for the 801A's, Thomas ?
In my long tribulations helping Andrew with the DHT heaters, it was surprising how much bass extension and dynamics/timing could be lost with some heating options . Any unit where the output impedance changes suddenly in the 40Hz to 5Hz area can completely take the wind out of the (bass performance) sails .
I'll hopefully be able to get an idea how the 6CB5A's sound myself, fairly soon . I'm going to try the EL86 ( pentode ) drivers first, on 300B's, then swap in the IDHT's .
6CB5A - nice driver for 845 & GM70 ??

Hi the 801a filaments were LCRC/ long twisted lead /cmcCL, not very sensible(!), and IIRC ripple was maybe 10x greater than the Coleman'ed 46s...Bass was nice enough with them (my tea trolley at Oweston. Driver was too weedy really but I knew that)
The extra headroom of the 6cb5 is quite fun (at the moment...) My speakers are Hornings, DX2s and 15"beasts (missus!) round the back. One day I'll pull out the drivers and OB them...
