So after much prevarication, I got a cheapish DDS signal generator off ebay for Xmas. Watching a YouTube review video convinced me it was quite easy to use and sweep manually frequency and signal level. It was £65 delivered from in the UK but seems to be £80 now in the UK, cheaper from China . It's a JDS6600. Already proved to be useful so very happy with purchase. Just hope now it's reliable.
