OK so the missus went and bought some new digital bathroom scales yesterday and slung out the old mechanical ones we have had for years, so I'm going to have to start again.
Start weight this time is:
15st 6.2lbs
More accurate, but not in the way I would have liked.
So let's say I've lost about a stone so far.

Bucket(s) of water would be good, each litre is a kilogram.
I was originally going to suggest 2 kg bags of sugar but that probably isn't helpful in the circumstances

Steve, that's a shame for you, but at the end of the day there's no harm done if you keep going in the right direction; you'll still reap the benefits.
I got a boost in the week when someone I hadn't seen for a few weeks noticed my new sylph like figure (well, alright they noticed I wasn't as fat). Anyway today's results:
Start weight: 17st
Last Sat: 15st 13lbs
Today: 15st 10lbs
Total loss: 1st 4lb

Well, I don't think I've actually put on any weight, this week, but because of the new scales I can't really say whether I've lost any either, hence the restart of the monitoring.
I've tested the scales and they are spot on, so that's a good thing.
What it does mean however is at the start of all this a month ago I was even heavier than I first thought
So I'm content to take it from this new reference point onwards.
At least I can now bend down and fasten my shoelaces without going purple! through lack of oxygen.

Nice one Ray
Last Sat: 15st 6lbs (new reference point)
This weekend:
14st 13lbs
Loss since new ref: 7lbs
A nice psychological boost cracking the 14s.
I reckon a stone and a half more will be perfectly adequate at my age.
I was 12 and a half stones in my youth, but that's probably too emaciated a look for a 56 year old of my stocky build, to carry off

The rate of weight loss is still a bit fast for my liking; about twice that of what it should be. However it is mitigated somewhat, by the fact that my sugar intake has absolutely plummeted over the course of this weight loss programme.
I've gone from eight mugs of tea a day with 2 sugars in each mug to 6 mugs with no sugar.
That was bloody hard work and the withdrawal symptoms, were similar to stopping smoking, but it was well worth it. My energy levels are higher and my mental acuity seems to be improved too. Eating more complex carbs, as recommended by Paul, Nick, and Shane, such as porridge for breakfast, with a bit of added protein in the shape of a boiled egg, keeps me going until lunchtime and prevents snacking on sweet crap such as biscuits and cakes.
In fact, stuff such as Cadbury's mini rolls and Mc'Vitie's Jaffa Cakes taste so sickly sweet to me now, as to be completely off-putting.
Also as the weight drops, I can exercise a bit more. The dog has never been so fit
Hopefully, like Ray seems to be achieving, it'll stabilise at around 3lbs a week.

Thanks Phil and well done Steve.
Similar story to Steve really, more energy and more alert. I'm enjoying exercising more now and it certainly takes more effort to make me blow. Also, believe it or not, enjoying my food more; more fish and more adventurous with vegetables and sleeping better at night instead of feeling sleepy in the day.
Next target is to get into the 14s, which I think will take another fortnight or so, with ultimate target of making the mid 13s.
The run upto and through Christmas and New Year is going to be interesting!

Steve - very impressed with how much you've achieved .
I regard sugar as the worst thing for weight gain , not fat , so if you can carry on avoiding it as much as possible , then I'm sure you'll keep the weight off in the future.
I'd not be surprised either that 8 cups of tea x 2 sugars per day might have caused you trouble with depression too - it would give me problems, for sure. That amount of caffeine and sugar is sure to knock out a good fraction of you B-vitamins, especially B1 .
Oops : well done to Ray too

I avoid caffeine by drinking Red Bush tea and decaf coffee. Still have sugar though.IslandPink wrote:
