Former Formula 1 commentator Murray Walker has died at the age of 97. :(

Maybe we should not be surprised, but a shame anyway.
Whenever an honest man discovers that he's mistaken, he will either cease to be mistaken or he will cease to be honest.

Very sad to see him pass. I know it's not a major surprise, but the end of an era. He was the voice of Formula One for me with James Hunt when I was growing up, and by all accounts a really decent man.

I liked the story he told about staying in a guesthouse on the Isle of Man with his dad, probably in the 1930's. He said that one of the top riders was staying in the room next door, and under the ill-fitting doors, in the evening, they could hear him arguing over the price, with a prostitute !

All the f1 moments i remember have murray walkers commentary over them
Mansell losing a tyre and missing out on the championship at adelaide, senna crashing into prost at suzuka, hill winning the championship at suzuka, martin brundle up in the air in the jordan at adelaide, mika hakkinnens crash that put him in a coma, sennas death at imola, berger in the ferrari that burst into flames at imola, the list goes on and on.
Im rather sad tonight

Yes the end of an era indeed, and remembered quite fondly :(

My favourite Murray moment:

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

It's always sad when someone passes as they'll be somebody's mother, father, brother, sister, etc.... but I'm probably in a very small minority when I say I used to find Walker's F1 commentary intensely irritating.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!
