This from another forum;
SME announced on 3rd December that they were withdrawing from supplying separate pickup arms, and with immediate effect would only supply SME arms as part of an SME turntable package. Which essentially triples the entry cost (or more). At the top end that is >£35k and at the lower end an estimated £7k for the entry level system.

So the era of being able to put a new SME arm on a classic turntable is at an end after pretty much exactly 60 years since Alastair Robertson-Aikman launched the first SME arm, and total arm sales exceeding 1 million since then. That statistic was on their site until 3rd December.
