#1 12 inches of Ortofon arm
I have one of those ancient (it really is mono) 12 inch Ortofon arms and cartridge - twelve whole inches - wonder if its any good!?!
Where do I get a protractor for such a huge thing?
Were they ever any good though? Built to last even the most drug crazed pirate station D.J. this one looks like it would last for ever, even after nuclear attack. I thought I could get a modern stereo cartridge holder, (standard but upside down SME fit) use litz cable taped to the tube, fashion a couple of RCA sockets and Bob would be further confirmed as being my uncle.
Any thoughts, suggestions, feelings topic related will be gratefully received.

Sorry....what was that... did I miss summat...I was just getting my 12" er into the right position... I think it's not how big it is but what you do with it... MrI's got a 12" of Danish hardness in his hands that he's playing with whilst looking on the interwebs for information on what to do with it...Andrew wrote:Do you realize DTB managed to pass by an enormous innuendo there? Are you OK Dave?
That OK?

That blue thing is the stylus from Andrews arm i reckon, it's a proper one too, it's got RECORD on the side of it.pre65 wrote:

Just needs a quick sharpen-up and it'll be fine.

I went to vinyl engine and downloaded several protractors; beowulf, schmaltz, Bayeaux tapiste or whatever they are called and they all look impressive but I'm wondering what difference there is that this is Ortofon 12inch and not the usual weedy 9inch or so varietyof arms.
Perhaps, the needle on the record just has to be aligned whether the arm is 9 inches or 90 inches long so that bit isn't so important - or is it?

hokay, I've downloaded 'templategen' put in 309mm because that's all I know and printyed Lofgren this and Stevenson that and so I can play and see... notthat I've mounted the Ortofon at all but we will see, eventually.

"Bayeaux tapestry" .. "usual weedy 9 inch"
Such a long time since I dun it last but I believe you first off need to know the stylus tip to pivot distance Not an arbitrary 309mm
I presume the program works it all out from there.
Presume also it draws two grids on the template? That's the main difference between the different types, where the grids are. I do remember though it won't line up on both grids until you get the overhang right
