) i got really rather bored.so i rooted through my stocks of 'stuff', and came across a(nother) thorens td150. just a chassis, no plinth or owt, and missing a few bits. so i decided to restore it. i thought id put it back to standard rather than tweaking it up.
the first missing bit was the left hand suspension bolt, so i replaced them all with new. i got a brand new set of nos thorens springs, believe it or not they were on the flea market for a quid. still sealed
the control for on off and speed selection was damaged on its 'frame', so a new piece was made from some scrap ally. its abit stiff to use so it needs a little more filing and slight shaping so the switch switches cleanly.
the belt mover thingy was missing the rod that moves it, so that was replaced with a pice cut out of a wire coathanger
the plinth was made out of a ceiling joist, filled smoothed and painted black. the armboard was made from another bit of scrap ply, stained with the same stuff as the amp was done with. looks quite nice. wonder what it sounds like!
stuck my recently acquired rb300 on it, and as an aside, its from around 1997, but the quality is far better than the ol rb 251 of mine that mi dad has on the lenco, that has a really rough look to it as id the castings havent really been finished, this one is lovely and smooth, and looks like someone has taken the time to give it a rub down and deburr before it was powder coated. different manufacturing processes or something i guess, but it should have a quality feel to it like this rb 300 does
plus its free. i made the case for the amp out of the rest of it!
mi old man was not best pleased........................... and never lent him a tool again
