#1 how the heck do you measure a drive belt?

Post by cressy »

i spoke to yamaha today re getting a new belt for the pf800. predictably they had to email over to malaysia to see if they had any. so. in the possible absence of an oem belt how does one measure a belt? is it simply pull it out and see how long it is? times it by 2 to get the length? the diameter of the bearing multiplied by 3.132? id have simply gone for a linn or thorens belt but the pulley on the motor is tiny and the inner platter is smaller than a td 150 lp12 et al. anyone know? cheers guys

Hi Ant,

Have a look at CPC (farnell). Open the below link and then choose from the options to find the type of belt you want. Measure the untentioned length however id best for you. You could mark it and then just roll it along a tape measure from mark back to mark. Be careful with CPC. You have to spend a bit to get free delivery and it's dear for a single low value item. They stock plenty of stuff so you might find other items you need to make up a reasonable order.

Best wishes,

You might also try these people:

Sizes usually specified as diameter I've found, wherever it's from. Can work that out from the circumference (Pi "in reverse")

I used the above linked company when I wanted an extra long belt to fit over the outside of my home brewed turntables platter.
