#1 WAD Phono2 power supply.

I recently got hold of a fully built WAD Phono2 PCB, which I'm intending to build into a suitable enclosure to replace the nondescript phono stage I'm using a the moment. I also got a PRE2 board with the CF conversion, but have yet to decide whether to use this or not.

Should I just build a PSU2 clone to power it, or is there a better alternative?

Not kidding, I think Nick and JamesD would agree .. ?
For example ( wheels out phono circuit again again ) :

As less current required for phono2 maybe OA2 and OB2 ( is it ? ) for the shunt , for 255V .

Thanks Mark, I shall re-visit that thread tomorrow. I've looked through it before when I was considering building a C3G based phono but chickened out, made a lot of sense then, iirc.

Yep, the WAD phono works a treat with a couple of VR tubes driven via a CCS.

Nick (G),

I have somewhere (on an old hard drive I think) a circuit of yours using VR tubes, is this still in the public domain ?

If so I'll share it with Shane.

That is the circuit I was remembering. :)

Shane, I have a spare Hammond choke as used to "improve" the PSU3 if you are interested. Unused and unopened box.

Hammond 157G 30H 40ma max DCR 595 ohm and 400v max.

PM me if interested.

Thanks chaps, that looks do-able, even for someone of my limited experience, but prepare for many silly questions!

The first to come to mind is the function of the 240v-9v followed by 9v-240v txs. I have a mains tx with 2x260v and 2x6.3v windings. Could I use that instead? If not, not a problem. It should fetch enough on eBay to fund a couple of 240v-9v jobbies.

Finance is limited, but time and curiosity are not.

Phil, I'll PM you re the choke.

You need 9v for the regulated 6.3v.

True, but my question was more about why the two transformers, rather than a single one with 240v and 9v secondaries. With my tx, I could connect the two 6.3v windings in series to give 12.6, if that didn't overwhelm the regulator.
