Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

not the voltage, and this current is 90 deg out of phase with the voltage for an inductor. Yes, but the voice coil is not a inductor, its a motor, so the power factor angle will be less than 90. Sorry if you are teaching me to suck eggs here, its 30 years+ since I last did any AC theory. Yes, but d...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

One key feature of this mode of operation is that the cone's motion lags by 90 degrees ( phase ) from the voltage. So you might think that the phase is flat over that bandwidth, too ? Don't forget the cones motion is driven only by the current flowing in the voice coil, not the voltage, and this cu...

1. What is that the horn that is doing that makes you want to use it? Does the problem(s) it solves be solved in any other way? 2. I assume the size of the horn is controlled by the wavelength of the sound? 3.Could you make something that works like a horn but is made of material that means that so...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

Maybe its worth asking a few naive questions then. What is that the horn that is doing that makes you want to use it? Does the problem(s) it solves be solved in any other way? I assume the size of the horn is controlled by the wavelength of the sound? Could you make something that works like a horn...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

.... but when are we going to see an achievable horn solution for the next 2 octaves down ? The further I get into Bjorn and Thomas's epic book the more I'm appreciating the size of the challenge at these frequencies. Literally size... and folding then adds another layer of complexity to juggle. On...

Re: Something stirs in the Undergrowth

I was intrigued by the equation to cnc direct connection. He seems to place importance on this aspect so I'm wondering if it's a departure from the usual method of cutting using cad files. Not really, its an elegant solution to a problem that doesn't really cause any issues. Provided you are gettin...

Re: The Audio-Talk Motorcycling thread.

If you haven't already come across Alan Millyard's creations its well worth a look:

Some of them are very subtle, his SS100 V twin and Z1 super-six look like they are factory production bikes. Others are not so subtle....

Re: General Raspberry Pi stuff

When you reach the limits of the Pi4 then Docker swarm on this is maybe the next step? https://turingpi.com/ I've been lurking on this thread and eyeing up my box of Pi3's in the corner for a lock-down project. Pi-hole looks to be a good investment for one of them, along with teaching myself python ...

Oh no, I just went down a rabbit hole I didn't know existed. What did you have to go and point out that rabbit hole for Mark. I wish I still had my Bob Jackson from that time - I did a lot of paper rounds and Saturday jobs to pay for it - beautiful hand-made 531 with lugs of course - I don't...

I’m it the process of installing a CCTV monitor for a local sports club using a RPi 4, taps into the cameras rstp feeds and displays them on a rotating 2x4 or single 1x4 screen. The app is displaycameras and intended for UniFi cameras but it works with others as well. https://github.com/Anonymousdo...

Re: FS Mark Audio (Markaudio) CHP-70 Gen.2 drive units (natural cone)

Pleasent little units really; they're happy in bookshelf / standmount sized vented, sealed & QW / TL loads. For reference, with a voltage source amp, vented 6 litres tuned to 65Hz is nice (lightly damped alignment, fairly broad tuning so not a 'one-note' bass); with a bit more size you can tune...
