Re: Image Hosting

Now that photobucket have got so silly with their charging for third party hosting I need to sign-up to an alternative service so I can post links to images of my cycling exploits and audio projects. I only need it for pictures that I want to link to for forums etc, as I have my full albums secured...

The New Mastersounds playing live at the Brudenell in Leeds. Yes they are as tight live as they are on records.

Housing Scripts for Front Panel Designer

For those of you who use (or who are looking to use) Front Panel Express (Schaeffer AG in Europe) to generate custom project housings, there are some scripts and videos here which cover some rather cunning ways of achieving a U-box - so a good way to get a chassis from FPE products without the costs...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

About done with the preamp chassis design, now at the point of investigating getting it actually made. Here's the final look, hopefully a more high-rez image than I've posted before - the brown is a wooden end cheek: http://i.imgur.com/DymHa7R.png I've also done some re-engineering on the Beast powe...

Re: Dieselpunk Preamp of Doom and the Beast with Two Backs

I've been doing some more work on the chassis design and layout - I wasn't happy with the way it was coming together and decided to re-engineer it to have a 4mm front panel separate to the 'u-tray', and perspex 'window' to protect the LCD display and remote sensor. No more exposed screw heads on the...

Re: Phono bake-off

I for one would like to see a rematch with some more demanding recordings - which are not necessarily 'audiophile pressings'. Something very interesting happened when Nick put on that Velvet Underground track. It's not a very well recorded or mastered track and at first I thought, why the hell is he...

Re: Phono bake-off

The R2R against 'best' vinyl replay comparison was very interesting at the end of the afternoon. Dave had two artists with identical tracks (not necessarily identical mixes, who knows?) on tape and vinyl, namely Michael Jackson and Ella Fitzgerald. The tape versions were superb, but as someone rema...

Re: Phono bake-off

Thanks David, I for one had a great time, definitely a worthwhile day out. Any excuse to sit around listening to music. It's quite late so just some initial thoughts from me: So the phonostages we had were as follows: 1) Furutech GT40A 2) Steve Shiel's EAR834P plus vintage Kiseki (?) SUT 3) Alan's F...

Re: Phono bake-off

Hehe yep that's me peering owlishly at the dip switches to adjust the Whest's gain.

To be fair I only saw one poster and would any of us there have actually bought the turntable it depicted (some mad oil rig Clearaudio thing I think it was)

Re: Nothing In Particular

Meredith was in Morrison's today getting a few things, and there was some Budweiser on the "Manager's Special" shelf.

She saw a guy reaching for it and said, "If you buy that in front of an American you will be embarrassing your entire country."

He got a British beer instead.

Re: Nothing In Particular

Awww who's the kitty?? :D So last night, I bought a signal generator. For quite some time I've owned a Tektronix 466 oscilloscope, but no sig gen, which is kinda like Ginger Rogers without Fred Astaire. Wavetek 131a which I'm assured is in full working order, due here tomorrow. Sub 50nS square wave ...

Re: Phono bake-off

Me! gotta see that Studer. 1994 was my sort of 'gap year' that I spent at Alchemea audio engineering college in London - Britannia Row, near where the Floyd had their studio (though I didn't know it at the time, amazingly). Alchemea's main studio at the time had a Studer 24 track analogue machine - ...
