Re: Dying Rectifier?

Looks like the GZ33 was the guilty party. Incredible but true! I've just looked up GZ37 prices. Blimus! And I looked up the GZ33 data sheet. Mea culpa. Yes, a GZ37 is actually less hungry in heater current than a GZ37. I've just looked at eBay. 2 x NOS Mullard GZ33, original boxes, 'never u...

Re: Valve amplifier service

Before, the volume pot could only be turned a gnats, now it goes to 11 or 12 o'clock. Without a resistor divider to drop some of the signal. Does sound more managable and sensible, and is what I would prefer. :D I'm convinced the 20k : 100R can't be right. It's just nuts. Glad to hear it se...

Re: Dying Rectifier?

I did wonder if it's a bad joint or loose contact, so when you poke it with the meter probe, it works again for a bit.

Have you another rectifier to try? (Anything equiv to GZ33)

Have you done the unplug, spray with switch cleaner, re-plug in, check socket pins for loose fit, etc. (?)

Re: Nothing In Particular

Probably!

When my mum was in care there were intimations about possibly selling the bungalow to help fund it, BUT, because I was also resident there and over 60 (if only just), I couldn't be booted out so that it could be sold.

Re: Valve amplifier service

If what results from the NFB change is what Nick says, may still have to do that. :D

Re: Valve amplifier service

It might be much simpler - I've just clocked the NFB resistors ratio - 201:1 ?! (20k : 100R) Cripes! :o 100R for R4 is fine, but I'd look at reducing R18, say to one tenth its current value - easy to do, just bung another resistor in parallel, say 2.2k. That should get us about 20:1, which I...

Re: Nothing In Particular

Righty-ho. :thumbleft: Glad you're making use of the drill press, I wasn't, I thought I'd be drilling lots of hols in chassis, but when it came to the point was just quicker and easier to use a cordless. If I had to drill anything thick which needed the hole to be properly vertical, OK, but I wasn't...

Re: Nothing In Particular

One for Mike. I drove past Aurora tonight. Looks like they spent a lot of money doing it up, it's even got an upstairs now ! What you doing down there then? Yep a builder guy bought it to do up, loft conversion and dormer windows, and there's an extension out the back too, where the Crittall ...
