Think so, I was told (by an American) thing on the left of it is a nut cracker.
Middle one? Slow cooker?
Yep, or electric fryer.

Re: Dying Rectifier?

Cant find 2 off for 1k, but there is 9 off for 1k, still a bit optimistic. Looking a the ones that have actually sold £30-£35 seems more normal. But its just supply and demand in action. I think "Mullard" carries a lot of the weigh. Must have been taken down. But I agree, wishful thinking...

I've used used a modern 5U4, it was OK. It's directly heated cathodes.

Re: Pye Sunrise Radio

Fab. Not jealous cat all. :D I guess originally there would have been a large paper driver and the case would be largely a U frame-type open baffle??? Bass cutoff would have been high, but it was a radio a century ago, and speech would presumably have been its sole role? Also to let the hot air out....

Re: Dying Rectifier?

Looks like the GZ33 was the guilty party. Incredible but true! I've just looked up GZ37 prices. Blimus! And I looked up the GZ33 data sheet. Mea culpa. Yes, a GZ37 is actually less hungry in heater current than a GZ37. I've just looked at eBay. 2 x NOS Mullard GZ33, original boxes, 'never u...
