Your crossover is probably fine as far as driver protection is concerned, but I don't think it is steep enough for optimum sonics with the G3. If you don't get the sonics you're hoping for, I would suggest a steeper filter for the ribbon.

I misunderstood you, then; I thought you were having trouble importing audio into Audacity. I do hope you can get your sound card squared away--optimizing a speaker design is challenging enough when the test equipment is behaving properly.

Hi Mark,

Try this help page. Looks like you need to use File > Open.

I use Audacity on my Mac. In the current version, importing is done by going to File > Import > Audio, then browsing and selecting the desired file. In the previous version, it was under Project > Import Audio. Are you able to import a file, but only with truncated bandwidth? I'm not quite sure what...

That's exactly what I ran into when comparing woofers in my system. When the GPA 416-B sounded so good, I expected the GPA 515-C (stronger motor, everything else the same) to sound even better. It didn't--the rising response came into play. I could have compensated for it, but with the 416 all of th...

Re: it is more than one parameter

I have often found that tuning woofer/midrange drivers for optimal LF extension really can screw up the midrange. I would even question the use of a low RMS driver for more than a decade (3 octaves). I hadn't thought of it in those terms, but I think you have something there. Using the GPA 416-8B i...

I leave the bug screens in place. I usually remove them from Altec drivers, but the ones in the Radian drivers don't seem like they would hurt anything. And of course I want to keep those expensive diaphragms protected.

The NeoBe version of the Radian 745 does roll off somewhat higher. In my system it wasn't a problem because it made the driver integration even better, a bit of dumb luck. I didn't notice any significant run-in, but my pair had been briefly used by the seller, so your experience might be different. ...

I find way less "driver sound" with the 745NeoBe than with any other I have heard, leaving a cleaner background for the sound of the instruments and voices. It isn't completely flat, which is also audible, but to my ears the anomalies are far less intrusive than the inherent resonances of ...

All eight holes are tapped for the M6 studs. Four studs are included with each driver, along with nuts and washers. The studs can be inserted into either set of holes as desired.

The flange material chips easily, so go very slowly and use sharp bits. I asked Martin for advice before re-drilling mine, but I don't remember what he said, sorry!

So ... entirely aside from OB, closed-box, TL, horns, what have you, the sound of the driver will be there. I agree completely. The mid-bass/lower midrange success in my system isn't so much due to the closed box as it is to the sound of the 416, which (surprisingly) happens to work beautifully in ...
