Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

Well, I should add another big thumbs up for JLCPCB - the boards arrived this morning from China and the quality looks just as good as any other project PCB that I've worked on in the past.

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

All the outstanding parts have now arrived from Digikey, Farnell and RS. PCB is still in transit, should be here in the next day or two. Tonight I breadboarded the battery monitor circuit with some of the newly arrived parts, to verify that reality matched the spice model - it did, precisely! :D The...

Re: The Newton 300B

Made the final round of changes last Sunday. I think we're done. :D Firstly the 300B operating point - I did some modelling in PSUD after I'd made my previous changes which led to the operating points sitting about 5% above my target of 350V / 60mA. PSUD predicted that if I added the 68R resistors b...

Re: The Newton 300B

I'll be glad when these tweaks are all done, because high voltage stuff bloody terrifies me. Thats why i dont bother any more  Im dreading rebuilding eds sv811 into a case even though it does sound fab. I actually only need 2 bits of nice timber for the side cheeks for the case for it, i jus...

Re: The Newton 300B

Some more tweaks made today to add to the build log. Firstly the feet - they are fixed on with plastic bolts to ensure that they are insulated from the chassis interior, so I couldn't do up the M4 nuts too tightly otherwise the threads would strip. Unfortunately, the effects of a house move followed...

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

Order placed to JLCPCB this morning - watch this space.

Now to roll up my sleeves and sort out those 300B operating points, which I meant to do back in July...

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

Completed the design for the power management system that'll sit inside the preamp along with the batteries. It'll also route the DAC source switch trigger signal. Here's the schematic: https://user.fm/files/v2-ccd9e1e7cb6fe03610db0215caf3c5db/Screenshot%202021-09-30%20at%2015.03.01.png the KiCad PC...

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

I'm currently seeing if one of those wedding suppliers on Etsy can oblige - they do little 2mm thick pieces of perspex with nametags on and the like for dinner guest seating.

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

I think, for the phono and DAC boxes, I'm going to go one better than some boring 'on' LED. All I need for this are two small pieces of 2mm perspex, etched on the back with something like the following: https://user.fm/files/v2-d58fdaaee703ab166bad98835ecf095a/Screenshot%202021-09-27%20at%2011.20.10...

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

I've just been examining the SilentSwitcher modules. The output voltage on the dual rail supply can be adjusted down from ±15V and I had originally thought about doing that, in order to run things a little more efficiently. However, it seems you have to solder on 4 SMD resistors, in locations that a...

Re: Millett LR + TP Opus + AMB α24 reboot

Progress this morning. Got up bright and early, and pulled the AMB onto the bench to fit an additional Molex header connector to J8 and load the new software that I hacked about a couple of weeks ago. Bit nervous as I wouldn't be very popular if I broke it and left us with no living room audio. Than...

Re: Owston 21 ???

Hi Steve - I've talked to Meredith and having thought about it, I'm afraid we'll have to bow out this year. We're both still a bit concerned about this new Covid delta variant. Even though we've both had the jab, we haven't stopped trying to take reasonable precautions not to catch it in the first p...

Re: Owston 21 ???

We could probably do it too - we'd need to rent a vehicle if bringing the Mets though. 300B's are do-able in the Lexus as long as I bring the sack trolley. I'll consult with Meredith.

20th is probably better than the 27th for us, as the latter is just after Thanksgiving.

If they're the DIP-8 ones Jack, you could be a lifesaver! :)
