Well I couldn't help thinking of bridges when I was thinking of you, Simon! And all you said is interesting stuff but ... slow means quite slow this time, but we'll see. I'm still using MDF rather than getting on with cutting the old green Lakeland stuff. I feel I should get it right first and then ...

Hello Simon, I also acquired some hardwood oblong material but you know, it does not feel anything like as 'solid' as its dowel equivalent and I think that will make a difference. You know how the longer side of the oblong in the vertical plane (in this example) is more firm (think girders!) and yet...

Yesssss but then our Philip wants to drive an 845 with the the PT15.

Of course it will work, and it will sound different but a PT15 power enough even as a triode so it could drive a huge output valve of your choice. You will have to experiment though if you want it to sound right.

you have a nasty mind, young man! no of course its a 'schroeder' in the making. I wonder though, wouldn't it be easier to use a piece of oblong wood for the tone arm instead of a round (knitting needle)? Is the latter more rigid, perhaps? Counter weight is of course to be a Lenco. Litz copper...

Hello Shane, could I remind you that you must bear in mind that an LM317 can only take 40volts across it before it fails. The (only) weak spot to the Lazy'mans constant current source, as I remember its called, is this voltage limit. Your output valves are prob. within limits but it might be worth c...

I'm really glad that the `amplifier which has had an enormous amount of discussion over the years in this and another place and is commonly described as a Loftin-White amplifier, indeed is described as such by Mr Ramsey and Angela.com, the main protagonists of the Shishido design from Japan, the ver...
