Wouldn't they fall off if the bird took flight?

Seems an odd place to put electronic components.

Theatre, darling boy, theatre!
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Ah I remember poking about in old boards like that, trying to figure out what does what. A fellow sixth former who knew more about it than me, I used to drive him nuts asking what does this do? How does this work? And what does this do? And how does this work?

Next on the bench is an M Audio Audiophile USB soundcard, I bought this years ago not working, its been in the pile of 'things that need doing' since then. The seller admitted it had been plugged into the wrong PSU at the time of purchase.

This is it...
Image

The PC doesn't recognise it when its plugged in even though I have a driver installed. The sound via headphones distorts badly too, hmmm.

Lid off...

Signs of heat in the PSU area on the underside of the PCB.
Image

Ooooh, + and - 15v rails OK as is the 3v3 rail but the +5 is down, hmmm, these 2 Electrolytic caps to the left look bulged...

What/where are the signs here Dave? The solder joints by your finger look okay. I'd never have seen this. Perhaps I need to looking on a big screen not a phone.

Nice manicure BTW.

The PCB is a yellowy-brown colour where the heat from the 4 regulators has affected the PCB, its a bit of a visual give-away when fault finding and its helped me locate faults in then past.

Ta! I look after my fingers :)

Ah yes, I see it now.

Guessing that's your fret hand rather than strumming hand? (Yeah, you guessed, I'm not a musician!)

Hey, it wasn't obvious on my phone! Honest! And my attention was drawn to Dave's tidy manicure which appeared to me to be pointing at the two soldered joints!

Sorry, that was me seeing it for the first time as well, after you. :D

Not a criticism.
