Yeah it's a hairshirt "enthusiast's" solution. But it delivers a lot of sound and functionality for the money.

caution to the wind..what a little tinker....

I ordered a pi 3 yesterday.
will buy a hat dac to go with it...been looking at hifiberry dac+ or iqaudio

are there any recommendations for a hat dac(budget)?

I currently run the BBB and behringer usb dac off a linear supply I knocked up with lt1083. I'm thinking that should be adequate for the PI???

If you are using a USB DAC then just connect the Pi to the DAC via USB and don't bother with the extra DAC. Unless you want to spend more money.

yeah but no but yeah...I was thinking the behringer dac is getting very old now and it was super budget when I bought it. Wouldn't one of the newer dacs be a serious improvement?

I've only tried the Allo Boss, but I read it's better than the Hifi Berry so plumped for it. You're welcome to try it ed to see how it compares to your Behringer. The petrol would probably be about a third of a new one though lol.
