I went to see the RPO in Durfud. They're were flippin' brill. The orchestra was hooooooooooge. I couldn't get over how quiet 40-50 players could be, there was no amplification whatsoever 'cept for the conductor who introduced each piece through a mic.

...and 4 Bassists! When they were all sawing away together the sound was awethumne...

The soloist who did the Lark Ascending was brill too.

Brilliant gig. I'm going to more.

You can't beat a live orchestra for sound, I'm a regular at concerts/recitals and use this as a reference with which to compare hifi. Try and get to hear Mahler's 2nd symphony, the final movement features a large choir and some very low organ bass notes; fabulous live but very difficult to replicate at home.

Well done DTB!
Funnily enough my wife saw this gig advertised and we almost went along, but, erm, didn't... :(

Last night I went to another of these RPO gigs in Dirtfud, it was brilliant. The 'theme' was Spanish Fiesta although no rusting Ford compact hatchbacks were featured... I knew some of it from hearing it on the radio over the years.

Rossini's The Barber of Seville Overture,
De Falla's The Three Cornered Hat Suite No.1,
Albéniz's Sevilla,
Rodrigo's Guitar Concerto,
Mozart's Don Giovanni Overture,
Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen,
and excerpts from Bizet's Carmen Suites.

This woman was burning up the place last night, she was great ->http://www.ram.ac.uk/find-people?pid=457

Loved it, Sarasate's Zigeunerweisen I've never heard before until last night, its that piece of music that she set fire to! She was ace. There's a part where she bows and bashes then alternates between pizzicato and bow strokes, it was well-bangin' (as they say at these sort of gigs)!!! I was about 30ft from her, it was an awethumne sound to witness Ed.

Her Stradocaster sounds different to your Stradocaster.... must be a different model or summat?! :-)

I'll get ya 'er number if she's there next time. "Oi darlin', I know a bloke with a bigger one than that...." That should do it.
