The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

In spite of the unseasonal weather, July has been a good month for me, 550miles and 25,000ft of elevation, and almost all of it outdoors.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

I've had a mooch around the West Somerset Railway 'Steam and Vintage Vehicle Rally' today. There was a fellow cyclist at the rally with some vintage French bikes, which he still rides. The brown one is from 1922, the red one from the 1930s and the blue one 1929. The brown and red ones are pretty much original, including wooden rimmed wheels and cork brake blocks. He told me he had ridden the red one 70Km in a race for historic bikes in France and had ridden the blue one for 350Km over 3days, also in France.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Very cool !
Good World champs today, very entertaining, just finished watching it.
A worthy winner indeed. A tough course for everyone, bit like a Spring classic crossed with a Kermesse. In the end it brought the cream to the top as it should do.

Wiggo Jnr. didn't do badly either - some good young riders coming through.
And then there's Pidcock - looked pretty dominant in the mountain biking.

Somehow it would be good to know eventually who the rider or riders were. As it stands atm, it still taints the entire GB track squad of that era and half of Team Sky.

I did another 100miler yesterday. 15mile ride out, 65mile charity ride then 20mile ride home.
Very rural route, unfortunately, torrential storms before the start made some of the lanes like farmyards, very shitty and slippery, and then it was like a sauna when the sun came out!

I was watching a video from Ed Laverack, winning the Bridgewater CC hillclimb on Crowcombe Hill at the weekend.
Have you been up that one, Ray - looks like a brute !

It is a brute Mark, and the gradient is accentuated by it being essentially 'straight' so you see it in front of you the whole time - I have to confess that I've avoided it, using the excuse, 'at my age...'.IslandPink wrote: ↑Wed Sep 20, 2023 12:56 pm I was watching a video from Ed Laverack, winning the Bridgewater CC hillclimb on Crowcombe Hill at the weekend.

Mind you, the fear of descending it is probably worse, going across the top and down the other side feels more manageable.
Here's some info on it

I've ridden these climbs on the Quantocks quite a few times; they're hard enough!

I know what you mean about the psychological torture of steep, straight climbs !

Email I got. Will let you bike types decide if its of interest:
I hope you are well.
I am getting in touch as I have found audio-talk.co.uk and was interested in a number of articles you have recently produced around cycling and bike maintenance. I’m currently working with an E Bike specialist in the cycling industry and was wondering if you be open to publishing a bespoke content piece written with the audio-talk.co.uk readership in mind.
The content provided would focus on high-value and relevant topics to your site and audience. Alternatively, I can provide you with insight or commentary for you to produce an article in your own words.
Is this something that might be of interest? I can send over more details and answer any questions you may have in the meantime.
Kind regards,
I hope you are well.
