#1 Blue Glow

Post by andrew Ivimey »

How I envied a quad of Sovtek 2A3s (in a WAD2A3PSE) blue glow. Ah, how I wanted a blue glow myself. That was a long time ago and sometimes I find a haze here and a bit of a glow there - Hooray for mercury vapour rectifiers; they glow!

But when a 60 or so year old valve begins to glow blue around the top of the anode, sometimes swirling in time to the rhythm where no glow has er, glown before, (James T Kirk) I can't help thinkig this is bad news.

'gassy' ?

It is, isn't it???????

Possibly, what does the getter look like?

How are the voltages around it, I would expect grid current if its starting to get gassy.
