I have now ordered the drive you suggested and an extra 1GB memory.

Reading through the instructions on the Seagate web site I see one is supposed to change the BIOS settings to that of the new hard drive.

Would that be done after the data has been transferred ?

What I did (in a 6 year old machine), was plug the new drive in as a master on the second IDE bus. Boot up, check in the bias that it detected the drive. I didn't have to change anything as it was set to auto detect the drives. Install the segate software. Then running the segate software, it detected the new drive and offered to format it. I let it format it, but in actual fact It wasn't needed, as the copy process overwrote that anyway. Then the segate software allowed me to clone the drive. I followed the instructions, selected the source, destination, told it to use the entire disk and tro replace the existing partition (I had just created), then let it work, rebooted and let it finish off the change. All finished and it booted onto the new drive. I ten removed the old drive and left it booting of the second bus. All seemed to work as it said on the tin.

Can't say fairer than that! Must say when I've had Seagates in the past they're usually good like that.

Well-i now have a new hard drive installed and the extra memory. It's like having a new computer !

A fairly painless procedure and no problems.

Good result! It does feel good to have all that extra disk space with little or no pain!

Not to mention that you've also got the old disk as a backup.
