#1 Corona Virus Lock Down 'Rant' Thread.

Post by JohnG »

If Nick is OK with this.

After a weekend of a Self Lock Down and keeping a tight routine, I uttered a variety of absolute nonsense spiel about most things in front of me.
I thought a thread to get it all out, and keep other topics free from any madness, might be a good 'on the side' place to Rant.

The only guarantee in life is that one day we will die.

I hope it's not today.

Please Keep Posting, it will be a good indicator to proving your still with us.

I've returned to work today, I've been asked more than 20 times this morning, "when is the Job Closing Down", and
"are we getting paid".
I say, "if you lose a few shillings and survive contracting the virus during the outbreak, then you're quids in".

Are you saying that as an employer ?

If I don't survive this virus outbreak, it won't be a great loss to many people. :)

For someone living with Generalised Anxiety Disorder, this situation is not good, but the following advice I’ve seen on the BBC does work.

“AnxietyUK suggests practising the "Apple" technique to deal with anxiety and worries.

Acknowledge: Notice and acknowledge the uncertainty as it comes to mind.

Pause: Don't react as you normally do. Don't react at all. Pause and breathe.

Pull back: Tell yourself this is just the worry talking, and this apparent need for certainty is not helpful and not necessary. It is only a thought or feeling. Don't believe everything you think. Thoughts are not statements or facts.

Let go: Let go of the thought or feeling. It will pass. You don't have to respond to them. You might imagine them floating away in a bubble or cloud.

Explore: Explore the present moment, because right now, in this moment, all is well. Notice your breathing and the sensations of your breathing. Notice the ground beneath you. Look around and notice what you see, what you hear, what you can touch, what you can smell. Right now. Then shift your focus of attention to something else - on what you need to do, on what you were doing before you noticed the worry, or do something else - mindfully with your full attention.” (BBC)

I know about the APPLE technique from anxiety sessions I’ve been on via the NHS and it’s far from being an easy technique to master, but one has to keep at it, because the technique is one of very few pathways leading to some semblance of a normal life that is available or is of any use to someone living with chronic GAD. The “Don’t believe everything you think...” statement I highlighted, is probably the most useful bit of advice I’ve had.

Good advice Steve, I'm finding I need to disengage from reading all the available stories now.

Sod the lock down

Went down to the coast to Rye Harbour reserve.

No risk to ourselves or anyone else.

Beautiful day. Loads of wildlife and maybe 20 other folk in the reserve... Just lovely.

Nice fish & chips too 😀

Also did shopping for some of the more isolated crusties that we look after as the OAP lunch club etc has been suspended...

National trust, for whom I work a bit, have shut all their properties. However, any member of the general public is now free to go into any if the gardens & parks etc. FOC.

Get some fresh air

I've just heard from my mother in law.....

there is now a curfew operating in France. If you are caught out of doors without a valid printed and approved reason then you are fined 38 euros immediately.

Apparently the wording on the approval has to be to the government specification. The penalty is going to be raised 105 euros at the weekend.

I just started to look for the math behind the political claims. All of a sudden, the supply of articles went from thousands to two.

If I should rant, it would be as a free lance trumpeter with no more gigs until after Easter!

The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number
