Not sure if the last picture I posted is visible to all, iCloud seems to move the URL's around. Trying again from my email service provider's web-hosting service...

Thanks - if it hadn't been for the move down south, this would have been done by now. What also hasn't helped is the fact we've had to go from a 3-bed to a 2-bed apartment (albeit with bigger rooms), and give up the self-storage (the ones here are double the cost of what I was paying in Chesterfield).

So it's taken a Herculean effort of sorting out and throwing away or donating junk, just to get to the point where I was able to carve out enough space to work on these things.

The right channel amp is almost at the point where I can do a heater test. I just need to solder the 12V trigger wiring to the 4 pin XLR inlet - before I do that, I want to sanity check with the pre-amp to ensure the 12V is appearing where I expect it to!

I have already tested the soft-start so that should work, but need to make sure the DC blocker doesn't go bang....

Oh I don't know, I think your recent efforts have more than held up the good name of the House of Shod, Mr C!

A successful heater test - actually, this also tested out the remote switch-on (via pre-amp), soft-start and DC blocker. The DC blocking caps didn't explode, so that's a good thing. This also told me that the on-light is WAY too bright - need to get a much dimmer one.

I thought (ha!) that I might get it finished today - nope, not even close. Maybe next week....

Big day yesterday...

Amp 1 is officially completed. :D Not only that, it works without going up in smoke. Here it is, driving one Metronome (which you can't see)...

And here are the completed innards:

How does it sound?

Oh, it's good. It's VERY good. Even only on one channel.

One could immediately hear that the bass control and tightness had improved considerably over the 15W stereo version. Even though the Metronomes are relatively efficient speakers, you could really hear what the extra wattage was bringing to the table, they seem to like having some real power behind them.

Resolution is also improved. It needed about two or three hours for a little bit of midrange sharpness to go away, after that it just played music beautifully.

It's now back on the bench with the base off again, as a visual reference for the other one, which has the heater wiring and most of the output stage components in. Onwards....
