Thanks for this. I really liked the sound and style. I see their catalogue is limited. I’m pursuing a possible purchase of their mini album.

I was originally thinking of bringing my Transcendent 300B SE-OTL amps along but with the plethora of other goodies that will be present, including several new OTLs, I may just come along for the ride, literally, as not bringing anything means I can get the train up and so relax.

Doncaster train station is only about a 7mile bike ride from Owston.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Would appreciate some advice for a newbie.
What is there to put yer stuff on? Should I bring my own table(s)?
Are there plenty of power sockets near wherever you set up? Do I need own extension cable?
Is it setup and leave it there for the duration or is there a lot of moving stuff about?
How long is a "show and tell"? And what normally would happen? i.e. this is blah blah and then play some tunes?

Thanks,
Stephen

You'll usually get a table and a power socket. Bring an extension lead if you want more sockets - better to have and not need, than to need and not have.

For the Saturday show-n-tell, give a quick intro of your system and then play some tunes. Usually three each.
The show-n-tell takes up a good chunk of the day, and everything is in position for that. Saturday evening (and Sunday, from what I've heard) involves moving stuff around a bit.

Yep that’s pretty much it. There’s plenty tables so everyone just sets up at a free table, then once we are all ready we go round the room listening to each system in turn, three tracks on each. After that it’s pretty much a free for all, folk like to try their stuff with other folk’s gear. Beer gets consumed, we have something to eat, more beer gets consumed and then usually a nice vinyl set up is cobbled together from the kit available and we settle down for some tunes until closing time. Then back to the hotel where the die hards are into the bar for a few more beers. :D

I reckon I have two 4-way socket extensions i've acquired from Owston in the last 2 years. I'll try to put them in the car tonight, so i don't forget.
'course it'll be nearly lunchtime Saturday before i get there.

The best part of the Owston experience is introducing your system to the sound of, “get on with it for fook’s sake” You then turn towards the CD player, hit “play”on your FFSS, Bert Kaempfert album, then turn round to find the room empty and only the door to the bar swinging gently on its hinges.

Small point! Small speakers get lost in that room, what with a) the room size, and b) all the noisy drunken gits talking all the time...

I could bring a RPi-based WiFi Vortexbox system wot I built with a couple of IQaudIO-based clients to drive other people's speakers directly or via their amp... (Pi-DigiAMP+ & Pi-DAC+).

I have 2 RPi clients with nice class-D amps and one with a decent DAC that could be used.

I use OrangeSqueeze as the app to control it.

Let me know if there's interest in this sort of guff, as it's not really "design & build", though I do have an excellent pair of small uFonkens which I did make a few years ago... Might be fun for those who haven't tried this stuff...

Basically, It's small enough to carry on the train, but SWMBO would be without her Arabic radio for the weekend... so I'll have to ask permission...
