I'm not riding today, my legs and lungs have done enough this weekend. I shall spend my day learning the intricacies of slide cutaways on a Mk1 Amal Concentric.

Do you have a specific problem with the Enfield ?

George Clooney’s yer man when it comes to Amals, I believe.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Snork !
Meanwhile, Michael Broadwith got the End-to-end record. 43:25:13 . Turned into an epic with the heavy rain in Scotland, then his neck giving out, he had to ride the last few hours including some big hills on the coast road ( at night) with his head resting on the tri-bars. Average speed for that is 19.3mph !!

Yep, everything is relative; when I was out this morning I was feeling good pushing it along on a couple of mile stretch that only just qualifies as downhill (with my cycle computer showing a speed of more than 22mph) when a couple of guys who were obviously time trial training, riding 'full works' TT bikes, went by as if I were standing still. I would have passed on the 'Gonzalez' badge but...

Let's celebrate with some footage of the 1953 Tour of Britain.
I haven't watched all of this yet, but the riders struggling up Holme Moss out of the saddle on eg. 46x23 tickled me !
Nice footage of Scarborough too.

56mins at 134 bpm average yesterday. Not great but the pulse was more sensible than last week.
I should get in another 2 rides this week ( and some walking ) while I'm off. Weather couldn't be better

Scobswell likes this bit of genuine Brutalist Concrete, its a viewing platform that has a good view across the Thames to Barking Creek barrier, to the right is the area where early Handley Page aircraft were built.
Crossed the Thames at Woolwich then back south using Tower Bridge, busy as always but its great to cycle over...
A new section Thames Path cycleway has opened up finally, whahey...
...which takes you right past a bit of almost floating music history.
That ship was one of the 'Fish n Chip' boats that lived Liverpool for years, the Beatles gigged on it a long with a few of the other Mersey Beat acts apparently. https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/li ... sh-7589688

Went out yesterday . Still blooming luvverly although on the upper limit of temps for comfort.
I did 1:13 with 140bpm average. Still a bit of a struggle , but mustn't grumble. More later in the week , but tomorrow I might go for a walk somewhere , maybe with a camera.
Today is scorchio already.

I'll let you off the Cheese & marmite. Could be worse.
Talk about scorchio, I did a walk today around Llyn Crafnant and Llyn Geirionydd ( near Llanwrst )
http://www.streetmap.co.uk/map.srf?x=27 ... ant,+Conwy+[Lake/Loch]&searchp=ids.srf&mapp=map.srf
.. which almost saw me off - the heat, man, the heat !!
I could barely put one leg in front of the other, on the last half mile back to the car. Sorely under-estimate the amount of drink I needed. Been quaffing loads since I got back.
The roads are melting in various places. I drove through Llangernyw on the way back and there was this weird roaring noise as the tyres stuck to the road then peeled off. The main road over the moors from Denbigh to the A5 has been temporarily closed.
( ps. not sure that link is all there. Just put 'Llyn Crafnant' into Streetmap.co.uk )

I'm reading a book,at present, called The cyclist who went out in the cold. It is a thunderingly good read. I'm about half way through it. I will never moan ever again about anything that ever happens to me, adversely, while cycling full stop. The author has a great sense of humour that never seemed to desert him, a wonderful way of telling a great story with bucket loads of important and mundane history and where he's been, that I've been, I agree, he is exactly right. Well, I would wouldn't I. But I've never felt a fraction of the potential and actual hell, misery and joy that he is surviving. I could come close to it on the Czechoslovak/West German border once... but I was in a car, not a small wheeled shopping bike from the GDR, with two years!!!! and it was only scary for me.
A MUST read.
A MUST read.
