#496 Re: what are you doing ?
Was called to 3 bee swarms today (two yesterday).
One in the roof of an Oast, one in the roof of a local boarding school and one in a huge ancient chimney.
The one in the oast I can't remove as a bit of the roof needs to be stripped and I'm not insured for that, so have called in an ethical bee remover who is a professional. They have a "bee vacuum" that safe sucks the bees out of a roof void without harming them.
I'm going to send him.over to the school too. The other swarm buggered off just before I arrived...
So, feeling a bit pissed off and hot and bothered, I went to see next week's project.
This is a massive & ancient listed hall house with am immensely large and complex roof which is in the process of being completely replaced - a massive job that has 6 guys working on it and scaffolding all round up to 3 floors - a six week job.
There are bees in two parts of the roof which the gardener, who's been there 25 years, says have always lived there.
So, I met with the owners and the roofer (excellent bloke) and agreed I'll supply a couple of bee suits for two of the guys and we'll all go up there and strip the roof where the bees are and I'll dig them out. Decided today was way too hot, so will wait a couple until a bit cooler...

Like me recently with a box of assorted split pins. Looking for it, I knew which box it USED to be in, but I'd moved it, then I became convinced I must have chucked it as "no longer required" (was originally for Piaggio X10 scooter which uses the odd split pin). Bought another box off eBay thinking same sort of thing but made an error judging the size of the box, IT'S HUGE!
Later on, was looking for something else completely different, bu55er me I find the original box in another of my plastic storage boxes, so I was right the first time, I had only moved it to another box not chucked it.
If you ever come to my bungalow it may look a bit untidy with piles of stuff and boxes standing about all over the place, simple reason is I must never tidy up, whenever I do it's like the kiss of death they're "lost"!

I spent 2 days looking for my cordless drill, getting really annoyed at first, then thinking someone must have pinched it.
Then I found it sitting safely in one of the plastic storage boxes I got so things would be tidy.

The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Old-school !

Went out running for the first time since lock down, got back several minutes later than usual, and was puffing and blowing like a 20 a day smoker.... 5k should not be so hard, but I haven't been out since March so I suppose it's not surprising. I was down to a 25 minute 5k time in March, this time it was 34 minutes. More effort required.
Saw another lenco, a gl78 relatively cheap on ebay with 30 seconds to go while browsing because I was bored.
Shoved a cheeky bid in and got it for 107 quid.
Has a cart in a modded lightened headshell that looks like a shure, and an ortofon that looks like a vms3, has the white stylus so I think it is that one.
Wonder if I could get a fine line vms30 stylus on it.
I'm hoping it's a v15 3 in the other headshell.
I ain't that lucky, it'll be a nondescript old clunker. Someone obviously took the time to lighten the headshell it's in though so it might be something reasonable
Deck is in nice condition too
Something else to carve up and upset the purists with

Is that really what they go for these days ?

Nope, that's a cheap one. they go for silly money. People are wanting many hundreds for reasonable ones
There was another on at 150 starting bid that looked completely shot, rusted arm, the top of the spindle was rusty, and the paint was bubbling. Wasn't worth 150p ne'mind quid.
There is a lot of old shite available, and what isn't old shite is expensive.
First one I bought cost me 15 quid.......

I thought you already had more turntables than you know what to do with Ant?
Sorry, I couldn't resist!
#507 Re: what are you doing ?
One can never have too many turntables
