It's surprising how much birdlife there can be in an urban environment, and I'm sure there's more, and they're more noisy, this year.
Robins, blackbirds, chaffinches, goldfinches, wood pigeons, blue great and cole tits, and magpies are daily visitors. Long tailed tits, nuthatches and wrebs are regular, greenfinches and tree creepers less so. Siskins, dunlins and collared doves occassionally. A couple of woodpeckers in 10 years. The odd mallard bizarrely (I think their compass is off when they're trying to get to next door's pond). And I hear owls at night but have never seen them - too many trees. There's a sparrowhawk that's nested next door for the last 5 years or so too which can be seen occasionally but heard more often that keeps them on their toes. And crows that I've seen in the trees but they've never come down.

I dug my KTM 450 out of the garage the other day, it's not been used for several years, and looked a bit, well shall we say, unloved.
So I pumped the tyres up, and gave it a pressure wash, and it looks a lot better. Thing is, do I start riding it again, or sell it ? Don't know just yet.
I've got a few jobs to do on it, and I've ordered some odd bits from the local dealer to get it up and running. The battery died ages ago, so I'll stick a capacitor on the battery leads and try the kickstarter, but that will have to wait for a week.

What about a gently smouldering dusky maiden ?
OR, the lingering whiff of Castrol R.

Indeed. Ta. I like the samosas too.
We love PieMinister pies. Our daughter went to Manchester university and when doing the student haulage shuttle runs up there, we'd go to PieMinister for a hearty meal.
She bought me the book some years ago. Excellent.

Just started on reading, “The Hopkins Manuscript” (1939) by RC Sherriff.
1000 years into the future, archeologists find a perfectly preserved manuscript inside a thermos flask, buried in the remains of a fireplace, in small house, in a ruined city, on an insignificant island, long since buried under almost impenetrable swampland.
“And so, “The Hopkins Manuscript” comes to us - A thin, lonely cry of anguish, from the gathering darkness of dying England - infinitely pathetic in the pitiful little conceits and self-esteem of its author.”
Hmmm.

I wonder if that 'inspired' Will Self's 'The book of Dave' ?

it put me in mind of Robert Harris' "'The second sleep"

#388 Re: what are you doing ?
Fairly productive day, redid the felt on the shed roof, boiled myself doing it though it was stupidly hot and I kept burning myself on the new felt..... I keep finding myself saying I'm too old for this when doing stuff like this... made an arm board for the eds1000 project, and fixed my makita 4" grinder.
I could solder the wiring into the multipole connector on the new deck but I can't be arsed now. Too hot.

Literally, a shed load of work!
From this...
...to this
Also built a substantial (over-engineered) workbench and added a compressor etc. (and carefully concealed auto clay pigeon trap - essential for every garage!).
