#1 COVID-19 - Help to make a difference

Post by Ray P »

Putting this in a new thread so it doesn't get lost in the Rants...

A colleague of mine put me onto this and it's an opportunity for us all to play a small part in the fight against COVID-19. One of my colleague's friends' is working on the front-line battle against COVID-19 in the UK as a respiratory physio specialist so I believe this is legit. and properly science-based.

There is an app (free to download) which we can use to record information that will be used to study the symptoms of the virus and track how it spreads. The app is part of the toolkit for research led by Dr Tim Spector, professor of genetic epidemiology at King’s College London (and director of TwinsUK a scientific study of 15,000 identical and non-identical twins, which has been running for nearly three decades). The COVID Symptom Tracker app was designed by doctors and scientists at King's College London, Guys and St Thomas’ Hospitals working in partnership with ZOE Global Ltd – a health science company.

We can help to slow the spread of COVID-19 and identify at risk cases sooner by self-reporting our symptoms daily, even if you feel well.

I signed up for this a few days ago. The app is a bit rough and it took ages for the registration to actually "take" - several attempts...

The company behind it, ZOE, whilst mainly consisting of academics from king's and elsewhere, is a commercial organisation using big data and machine learning/ai, mostly to determine individuals' responses to dietry variations.

Read the comments in the play store or wherever you download it from.

It will get better and for the moment, I'm sticking with it.

Thanks Nick - I was beginning to think nobody was interested!

If anyone else does decide to join in just be aware that the Playstore app search doesn't seem to find it if you search on 'covid symptom'; I located it by searching for 'Zoe Global'. It also takes some patience to set yourself up.

Signed up, and posted on the village Facebook page.

It’s now the most downloaded app on the Apple App Store.
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Is it possible to use this on a PC ? - I can't see this option so far.

OK, I found a FAQ on that, and the answer is 'no' at the moment.
Shame.

Here is a YouTube video of breathing exercises to help if one succumbed to the virus.

Simple, but seemingly effective.

From J K Rowling.

Please watch this doc from Queens Hospital explain how to relieve respiratory symptoms. For last 2 weeks I've had all symptoms of C19 (tho haven't been tested) & did this on doc husband's advice. I'm fully recovered & technique helped a lot. via @YouTube

Noticed a couple of days ago the app started asking if I was taking any supplements and if so, which in particular, including Vitamin D.

Also, over the last few weeks, each week they ask how many times I've been out to various types of places, was I diabetic etc.

They're enriching their database.

It will be targeted at mobile devices, so Windows is in the noise.

MIcrosoft have been playing catch up in several areas for some time now. They have abandoned mobile, and are big contributors to open source now. Its not the world it used to be.

Well that's very good. Tim Spector picking up the slack ( again). Dr. John Campbell was quite angry on his Vlog the other day that this rather lame PHE report on excess 'BAME' deaths in the UK managed not to mention vitamin D at any point.
