I mentioned the 1930s just as an example because one might have hoped we would have learned something from the consequences of that era but yes, history, up to the present day, is littered with others. Maduro is in good company, Erdogan, Putin, Jinping; that'll put me on some lists for 're-education'...

But THIS time it will be different, THIS time its a good thing because reason. MAGA...

The clue is in the present day part of "history up to the present day", so no we don't seem to be able to learn.

Nah, there's no chance of us learning from history, it would have happened by now if it was going to...

I think there might be a difference between Trump and the other bunch; I don't think he will be able to amend the US constitution to get the job for life, but you never know.

I wonder if I need to create a <sarcastic/> tag for this place :-)

Doesn't need to, he has Ivanka and Eric for that.

I am certainly going to need that tag.

I recorded it to watch when I came back from my bike ride.
Just going through it now. I see that he's already 18minutes late. Not a good start.

I wasted 5 minutes of my life watching him, then went off to do something useful.

Was he right, or wrong ? I don't really care.

What would I have done in the same situation ? Don't know.

He was over half an hour late. He explained a lot of stuff in detail, hoping this would help.
He didn't think he did anything wrong. he wouldn't apologise for anything, even when pressed my more than one journalist.
His answer to the problems this will likely cause, in maintain public compliance to lockdown rules, is that he agreed it was a concern, based on how the media had covered this in the last couple of days. So it's the media's fault.
His trip to Barnard Castle was apparently a way of checking if his eyesight had recovered enough to be able to drive back to London.

Cooooooool logic!

I'm going to book a day off tomorrow and drink 68 pints of beer to see if it would still make me drunk :)

Basically, when all is said and done, Cummings doesn't give a shit!

And although Boris is dishonest and manipulative himself I'm suspicious too about his response - I imagine Cummings has got him over a barrel in terms of what he could tell (sell) to the papers or write in a book.

It would be amusing if the police brought charges - he appears to have breached the lockdown regulations and confessed to a road traffic offence of driving in the knowledge that his eyesight made it potentially unsafe to do so - his eyetest logic seems to be 'if I can drive 30miles without hitting anything or killing anyone my eyesight must be OK'.
