#1 Milling machine advice

Post by Ant »

I'm looking seriously at getting a milling machine.
having bodged a rudimentary capability onto the drill press using an old lathe cross slide in order to mill a small section out of the arm wand on the unipivot, I've been musing getting something proper for a while.
The bodge was fine if cumbersome with wood, (used a router but in the drill chuck) no use whatsoever if I wanted to do metal.

I have no space for anything other than a small bench top machine, the only ones that spring to mind in that size range were the proxxon mf70 and the hobbymat bfe65

The proxxon is abit small for drilling, whereas the bfe65 could replace the drill press. The proxxon is easily available but the bfe is like rocking horse dung. Catch 22.

Anyone have any ideas for alternatives or advice on what to be looking for. A Bridgeport won't fit........

Thanks ant

You can always come and use my Bridgeport Ant . probably cheaper
My lad has a older unimat lathe.. it may have the milling attachment?
I'm ask him if he wants to sell it.
The tube manual is quite like a telephone book. The number of it perfect. It is useful to make it possible to speak with a girl. But we can't see her beautiful face from the telephone number
