I learned not to have fuses in speaker feeds or power supply rails*

I've learned that your amp should either have a fuse, or be perfectly fine driving full power with a short-circuit on the output terminals.
It's nice to believe a shorted output will never happen, but that one time it does, I want to make sure the line of output devices doesn't turn to smoke.

Recently picked up an older Akai amplifier with one channel out. Put a new fuse on that output, and it works fine. The previous owner was using it to drive below 4ohm, so the fuse likely saved the power amp chip. It's got a good set of features, and sounds quite nice, so it's now my lounge stereo.

Fuses are not much use protecting a power amp. To be fast enough to protect the output devices they are likely to blow when they don't have to. Electronic protection is much more effective and soa limiting and robust output devices are a better bet.

£500 for a fuse? Where?

Its 5 forums now as you decided to bring the debate over here. This has been debated eons ago, same old circular bullshit.

A big shill on TAS (the art of shill). Let's not forget they are illegal and potentially lethal. Trading Standards have been made aware.
