Phil have you got backups of essential files, if worst comes to worst & have to junk it, can reload it all onto a new machine?

If not, might be a good idea to do it now. USB sticks are brilliant for this.

I've swapped in a hard drive from another laptop into the troubled machine.

If it goes a week without the old problem I'll assume it was a hard drive problem and order a new one.

Unlikely, hdd issues don’t manifest themselves in that way. Maybe the data on the drive is corrupted or you have a main board issue.

Possibly Phil actually means corrupted data, as opposed to HDD hardware. (?)

Sadly the computer had another BSOD today, with the replacement hard drive fitted, so I suppose I can rule out the original hard drive as the problem. :(

I'll investigate the availability of a new motherboard.

Wouldn’t it be easier just to buy a new laptop?
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.

Well Shane, that is a possibility.

The Lenove T540p (with gen 4 i7 processor) was quite expensive new (1K ish). I did purchase it 2nd hand so it only owes me about £400.

I'll see if I can do anything with the Toshiba laptop that has a duff keyboard.

In the end I reloaded W10 (via update and security section) and so far, I've had no further problems. :D

A few days after my last post the Lenovo care ap did a BIOS update.

I've had no problems since then.

Coincidence ?
