My TV trolley GU-48 (833a) amps are in bits at the moment, but the GK-71 monoblocks are alive and well.

Sorry to DTB but I could not organize another meet on his chosen weekend.
I do have the next meetings agenda organized after listening to something tonight.
Turntables.
Preferably bring one with a removable headshell so we can put the same cartridge on each one.
Date to be announced.
Here is one I bought earlier today. Well it was paid for years ago but arrived today.

Personally I would like these meets to deal with controversial subjects that need a bit of reality injected in them. I very much feel the phono stage one was that to a degree, only because some people had made it controversial.
I would like to see a speaker cable one as another very controversial subject, with many just thinking it is just not a subject that requires any thought. Your place would be good as I believe valve amps and solid state amps behave differently, mainly due to the output transformer.
Nick can provide amps as he makes both and I will provide a back up one if needed. Let us get this argument put to rest as to if speaker cables have different sound or if choice is important.
Controversy and settling forum conflicts are good copy as well, so more kudos for Dave and his shop.

Interesting subject matter RD.
All cables sound the same surely?

Cables don't make a sound!mainscablesrus wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2017 2:11 pm Interesting subject matter RD.

But they can, and do have an effect on the amplifier/speaker relationship.

Everything has a sound, and yes part of that is created by the item itself, part by the balance of abilities of the system to show differences and not mask them, and partly by interfaces, but to say they have no sound is daft AND PROVABLE TO BE WRONG, hence the request to prove it.
The doubt is not in the difference the doubt is in our ability to hear it.

Many of the other accessory type things have proved to be controversial that can be baked off. Interconnect cables, balanced v unbalanced, fuses, mains cables, equipment stands. We could even have an afternoon set aside for the more loony things like cable lifters and strange blocks for putting on equipment, but for me I really couldn't be bothered to go that far into the foo catalogue.

I didn't say that they don't have an audible effect when they're hooked up between an amplifier and speakers.

I don’t think it will do any such thing, i.e put it to rest, I believe it will just create far more debate and controversy.Dr Bunsen Honeydew wrote: ↑Sat Oct 28, 2017 2:00 pm Let us get this argument put to rest as to if speaker cables have different sound or if choice is important.
Consider a cable in between source a and load b....it reacts with source a but not load b and causes a result c
The same cable in between source x and load y ..... it reacts with load y but not source x and causes a result z
Consider a different cable between source a and load b...it reacts with load b but not source a and causes a result d
I could go on....and on and on.....
There are a million(slight exaggeration) different sources and loads out there on which to attach these cables, all with varying synergistic result...
So what exactly are you ‘putting to rest’
sure, it's easy to prove that cables make a difference but it wont affect the debate one iota
There's nowhere you can be that isn't where you're meant to be
