#1 Hot and dry holiday destination.

Post by pre65 »

Jean would like a holiday.

She would prefer somewhere warm and dry (helps rheumatism) with a decent (secluded ?)beach, and I would like somewhere with interesting things to see and do.

Both of us would like to avoid mass tourist resorts, so quiet is good, and not requiring 5* luxury but not a flea pit either.

And lastly, nowhere near any hot-spots of conflict.

Any suggestions from those that travel ? Time wise 29th April.

Bit too early to guarantee warm weather in most of southern Europe I think.
I don't know if there any decent beaches away from the crowds in the Canaries. I've only been to La Gomera which was very good and not too touristy but lacking decent beaches.
You may need to travel further afield - Cuba is amazing.

La Gomera is good and there are beaches, but quite a lot of Germans.
Lanzarote is good if you get outside the touristy places...
Azores are absolutely lovely and largely undiscovered. Cheap.
Part of Portugal....
Oddly, it's peeing down with rain here....

If you were going a bit later Croatia is excellent. Cheap , friendly and islands like Greece but greener than most. Island of Korcula very nice. For me though Greece has special appeal i cant find elsewhere. Καλο ταξιδι

Oman can be superb!!!

You live near Stanstead. The options are many gorgeous and varied. Marrakech is FAB. A Riad (spelling) is the place to stay in .there are many. My favourite is Kaiss. It's all on the Web and very friendly. Young Morrow as speak English. It's only the much older generation who speak French. In a way this is a pity.

Not "can be", you mean "is"!

Been there three times in the last few months - it's about 90 minutes drive to the border from here but 4 hours drive to anywhere meaningful, ie not just desert...

Omanis are just lovely people and the country, especially the mountains, are glorious.

How warm/hot and how dry? No rain or low humidity? How far do you want to travel/how many hours in the air?

You might get 25 degrees C in the south Med at the end of April but it can be a bit variable. Went to Rhodes last April and the weather was good, hotter than 25 some days, and the old town is fascinating.

The NE corner of Mallorca is really nice but might not be warm enough.

Gran Canaria is renown for warm sunshine. Never been but someone at work went at Christmas and it was 28 degrees. Probably not so quiet though.

For quiet you probably need to go further/more dollars/more off beat (harder to get there).

If you want low humidity it's more interesting. Somewhere like the Middle East or North Africa, say Egypt, would do it, but I wouldn't think most would think them safe these days sadly. Egypt's an absolutely fascinating country though.
