That photo was in Paris, 1904.

Quote. "Tommy Hall, English, holder of world record for 1-hour: more than 54 miles!!! Paris, 1904"

I think the pacer was rated at 15CV.

Great shot !
I believe that motor-paced record went to 70mph eventually, in the late 30's ?

Aha!the velodrome de la belle France...perhaps. yeah the geezer on the front was the pacemaker who also we.. .. broke the wind so the fixie cyclist could break the world record for cycling very fast indeed.

Oddly tonight I had a discussion with the senior surgeon about just such cycling - what I did in my yoof and what joy he has just discovered- oh the joy, the speed.

Fair enough.

Oh my the bruising is developing but still my right thumb - Why! and whiplash neck oh yes....

Still what do you do when you hit an ice patch ? I had 1.5 seconds to consider, brake, slide, fall or keep going, slide and fall or just resign myself to the inevitable. I'm badly bruised and both my thumbs are hurting badly; one's bleeding, but they're not broken.

So only ten miles. I dreamed of more.
It was a Monty Python reference, admittedly in poor taste.

Really sorry about the crash. Nasty!.

Talking Tubs -
Wolber Juniors were great. Affordable, not too heavy, enough section ( 25 or 26mm ) to absorb the bumps a bit, and take a few potholes. Anyone else have faves ? I think I also used some Barums.

I remember Wolber Juniors but it's too long ago when I cared about the make. There may have been Gewertztraminer something's but. You'll be asking me what tub cement I used next!!! I have used evo stik...

Used to use some sort of double-sided tape, but it was a looooooong time ago - I got rid of the tubs as they punctured all the time on roads - round our way we have a lot of small flint shards on the lanes and they savage tubs.

Used to use something called "tyre savers" - basically a little wire scraper that rested lightly against the tyre and flicked out any bit of flint/glass/whatever that'd got stuck in the tub. Cheap and effective.

I remember them!

Oh how my bruises are coming out, coming up, joining up & in. Strange sorenesses all over.

Wailing and general gnashing of teeth. It is so sunny today Anna & I walked across the fields (double the exercise as we pick up so much mud that we emerge at the country park twice as heavy as when we started) then double our wobbly weight once more by eating huge full Englishes and lashings if steaming coffee. Back to Beds Borough on the bus with all the pensioners and their livestock to market.

Promptly fell asleep reading the paper. Anna is outside polishing and re-arranging stones.

I'm very confused.
