Better look it up on Wikipedia !

Standard ride today, rather warm & sunny, guess about 25C with maybe 50% humidity after the rain. Borderline too warm for me these days with my built-in insulation layer.
About 17 miles in 1hr08:30 , pulse 141 avg, not sure why a bit high. Felt OK but not quite as good as last week. No progression, but enjoyed the ride - things are getting very lush, even a bit jungly out there.

Ray's been very quiet - are you OK ?

Hi Mark and thanks for thinking of me...

We only returned from a relaxing break in rural Normandy on Saturday so not much cycling to report on but a great holiday. We stayed with some French friends and got to enjoy family life a la Francais; formal cooked meals at lunch and dinner, mainly eaten outdoors with the beautiful weather. The closest I got to a bike was following Mr. Froome's epic performance in the Giro.

Apart from the break, I decided to take a short break from cycling because of a muscle pain I've been experiencing in my arms - should get the blood test results tomorrow - and plan to try and get into training again with a gym session tomorrow.

BTW, our friends let out accomodation on AirBnB so if anyone fancies a short break in rural France let me know an I'll point you at it and can provide more information/pictures. We flew into Rennes and then drove about 80Kms to their house.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Sounds great Ray - good to hear from you. I am in awe of that ride on Friday by Froome, I since watched about 3 hours of it from the live Eurosport coverage , at my mum's - harks back to some of the great lone breaks by Hinualt in 1985 and 1986 - seldom seen in recent years.

Yes, Froome’s performance was independently phenomenal. I watched it live and was a bit gob smacked at the time, although realise for him,it was all in the plan. A fantastic performance never the less. Completely awe inspiring.

Boiling hot recently, so I've been sticking to local Fixie loops mostly until last Sunday, up to Westminster to support my little Sis and 81 y/o Mum who ran the Westminster Mile. I cycled up and back

After doing hardly anything through May because of just not feeling right and having muscle aches in my arms I've gradually been feeling better so I thought I'd better knuckle down to some training if I'm to do the 100+ mile charity ride in August.

I started with my usual 'easy' 20mile 'there and back' route to get a feel for my fitness and health - good news is that I felt good, if a little out of condition.

Please with that as a first step on the road back...

Thats pretty nippy MrP, nice one.

I had a 'limited time' ride yesterday in that I had to meet JTS in Crayford at 4.30pm prompt. I set meself a target of Tower Bridge and back in the allotted time span, peddaled like the clappers and nailed it. Whahey!

Why thank you MrB.

I think you need a governor on your legs though.

Image

Maybe you have some old balls hanging around in your shed....

I was feeling OK this morning so I got out early and pushed the distance out a bit, my legs felt quite tired towards the end but otherwise everything seems fine so more of the same required to rebuild my strength to where it was last summer. Cardiovascular is well ahead of my physical strength it seems;

Looking good, Ray !
Been lovely again for cycling today. I spent a bit of time getting a new 25mm tyre on the back. Cost a small fortune this one, a Continental 'Grand Prix 4 seasons'. Even discounted with a battered box it was £30. Anyway, seems like a quality item, good weight, supple sidewalls. On the road I did 1hr18 including some hills. Average pulse 136. Felt pretty good, better than last Monday - maybe I'm finally making some progress. Tyre felt good -fairly light, bit of bounce compared to the 23mm I had on there the last 2 outings.

Cheers Mark, I think everything is headed in the right direction Mark; just a month ago a 20mile ride would finish me off for the day but we've been out all afternoon and walked around 5miles on the North Somerset coast and I still have energy so I think I've seen off what was affecting me.

Some recent research into bike tyres came to the conclusion that 25mm is optimal.

I know what you said before but dare I mention that you might consider getting a GPS bike computer and adopt RidewithGPS, then you'll be able to see your VAM (how well you're climbing), your wattage output, etc.
