Back on the bike this afternoon. A steady 1hr12mins , pulse average 128, so maybe the 5 hour walks in the Lakes did a little bit for fat-burning, pulse lower than last time.
Didn't feel great , right leg uncomfortable but improved slightly towards the end. Countryside nice, but grey and cold, a sprinkle of rain near Ruthin, my right foot was numb when I got back. Shame I couldn't get out yesterday , I was driving back from Warrington ( for the umpteenth time ) it was pretty sunny.

19 miles mostly exploring the river bank - lovely weather, perfect even.

River bank cycling is great innits. Whats not to like, not a cloud in the sky and a big fast wide cycle track to go whizzing up to that-there-Lundun...
Image

Awethumne weather out there so I linked the Thames Path to the Waterlink Way today, nice big SE Lundun Loop.

Got a slow punkchurr at Greenwich, but other than that, lovely loveliness. Thames path extention soon to open near the Thames Barrier, that'll divert cycle traffic away from a very nasty road and roundabout nicely yes please thank you. Not yet open though, meh....

It'll take you past the old boat the Beatles played on thats been dumped on the river bank for years...

I've been struggling with the aftermath of the bug I had a while back, painful muscle aches and a pair of really sore knees, so I've been off the bike for a fortnight. I still feel that I have a bit of a general malaise and some achiness but I do seem to be improving slowly. Anyway, if I'm going to ride almost 120miles in August I need to resume getting the miles in so I went on a fairly gentle shakedown today to see how the knees feel and to get a general gauge on how I'm doing - the answer it seems is not too bad;

Departed: May 13, '18, 01:33PM
Distance: 19.7 mi
Elevation: + 805 / - 797 ft
Max Grade: 6.1 %
VAM: 396 Vm/h
Total Duration: 01:14:47
Moving Time: 01:14:28
Calories: 880
Avg. Watts: 197
Max Speed: 28.8 mph
Avg. Speed: 15.9 mph

Better speed than I expected and no problem with the knees, just a bit tired afterwards.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Good effort, and hope things get back in the groove for you Ray. Still only May, after all.
I had to sort out the bike before I went out - after last weekend's blow-out - before I was able to get on the thing.
First I had to deal with a back tyre that looked like this :
Tyre_May18.JPG
Which was a bit amazing, I thought the inner tube had failed near the valve, or something. However, even odder was that the inner tube hadn't burst near this gash - somewhere else. Still trying to work this one out.
Anyway I spend about two hours finding a new tyre and inner tube, fitting that on, as well as cleaning up the sprockets, chainrings and chain, re-oiling & getting it all fettled.
So, around 4:30 I went for a great ride , weather was just superb . Stats were 1:17 @ 141bpm. Felt a bit stronger than last time, have been sleeping better ( I think due to more calcium supplements ) , it's odd that the pulse tends to be higher ( and the perceived effort less ) when things are going well. I took the minor lanes today via villages like Llangynhafal and Hirwaen, back via Gellifor. This is what it should be all about !

Sounds very exotic!

I've been persuaded to try inner tube less tyres (not 'tubs'). I'm a bit too busy to get this sorted but I thought I'd give them a try. Size 28s too- broad in the beambso to speak.
