It's official - Sunday is no longer a day of rest! Headed out for a hilly ride this morning and since getting back I've been clearing the garden, digging out some old climbing roses and making several trips to the recycling centre, phew. I've been allowed a short break for a coffee and now I'm told we have to head into town. Aaargh...

This morning's ride;

Distance: 20.8 mi
Elevation: + 1836 / - 1797 ft

Short 30km outing yesterday.

It was short 'cos the weather was shite. We had sleet, we had rain, we had continuous strong Northerly freezing wind, it was 5C and not much fun, so as we started at Yalding and were passing withing a couple of km of home, I left the pack half way through the ride and took the hot bath and coffee option :)

Good decision as it turned out - the afternoon was pretty nasty. I'll do a bigger ride mid-week to make up for it... Still did over 1,000ft of climbing though...

On the so-called "day of rest" thing, I am decorating bedrooms (having done the downstairs halls & loo already) - I never knew paint could cost so much... :shock: Good excuse to buy some new LED worklamps though. Just got some of these and am most impressed ! All the limestone flooring is being re-surfaced & re-sealed this month too...

72 km (45 miles) today in cold, windy (from the NE) & wet conditions. 2,500 ft of climbing - short sharp hills.

Started in Maidstone, had lunch near Faversham at the Brogdale national apple, plum & cherry collection (v. nice café), before cycling back. Very pretty ride but very cold (as low as 7C) and a lot of freezing rain. Top speed of 58km/h (36 mph) and average heart rate of 131 - still high, but nicely in the aerobic zone.

Yesterday I rode my stock 19.4mile there and back ride and set a new PB, trimming another 13seconds of my time and averaging 19.3mph. I'm now just 25seconds off beating 1hr for the ride!

I've been out this morning, checking out part of the route I'm setting for the office charity ride in July; rode out to Watchet on the Bristol Channel coast along the planned route then back a different way but taking in another section. Total distance was just 38.4miles and over 3400ft of climbing.

Here's the out leg, which runs through beautiful country side but is along narrow, lumpy and bumpy lanes so taken at a measured pace (some scary descents too!);

Departed: May 12, '19, 08:27AM
Starts in: Taunton Deane, England, GB
Distance: 19.0 mi
Elevation: + 2067 / - 2153 ft
Max Grade: 16.2 %
VAM: 653 Vm/h
Moving Time: 01:31:06
Calories: 966
Avg. Watts: 177
Max Speed: 36.9 mph
Avg. Speed: 12.5 mph
Moving Pace: 00:04:47
Max Heartrate: 155 bpm
Min Heartrate: 66 bpm
Avg. Heartrate: 110.8 bpm

And, after a coffee and a bite in Watchet, the return leg, which had much better roads, wider and smoother;

Departed: May 12, '19, 10:48AM
Starts in: West Somerset, England, GB
Distance: 19.4 mi
Elevation: + 1352 / - 1285 ft
Max Grade: 10.1 %
VAM: 580 Vm/h
Moving Time: 01:10:08
Calories: 860
Avg. Watts: 204
Max Speed: 38.9 mph
Avg. Speed: 16.6 mph
Moving Pace: 00:03:37
Max Heartrate: 142 bpm
Min Heartrate: 73 bpm
Avg. Heartrate: 121.1 bpm

Good efforts all round. I'm continuing with the hill walks at the moment. Stuck at around 1 1/2 to 2 hrs currently, ticking over. Had some nice views. One good day, last Monday.
Friend of mine from work is doing the Fred Whitton challenge today in the Lakes. Hope he survives ! - good weather for it anyway.

I have had the 'pleasure' of riding most of those passes at one time or another.

SWMBO & I signed up for the Beachy Head Marathon in October - you have up to 9 hours to complete the course and many do it as a long-distance hike.

I'll certainly not be running the whole way - there are loads of food stops etc., so a brisk walk for 6 or 7 hours should do it (weather permitting!).

Good efforts team!

A short outing on the bike today for a change. One of the usual circuits, somewhat hilly. 58 mins at 135bpm average, felt OK, would have been in the 125 to 130 bpm range on a flatter route. I've been having some success strength-wise by supplementing more calcium and some vitamin B5.

Went out with #2 son who is 25, therefore under half my age...

Short 52 km at a reasonable speed with not a lot of climbing - about 1000ft

Average BPM was 121 with a high of 165.
