Late in the day, but #2 son and a friend who were both going to do the Vatternrunden with us in Sweden this weekend, have decided to do the whole 315km in our sitting room on their turbotrainers. i.e. a full virtual Vatternrunden, complete with massive video screen showing route ahead etc, starting at 7AM tomorrow and continuing for at least 15 hours solid.
If you could drop them a bob or two, it would be gratefully received
https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/ ... ternrundan
If the weather is ok tomorrow, I'm intending to do a quick 100km round here...

How's all the 100km+ activity going ?
I will drop by the justgiving page later.
I just went for a normal ride for an hour & 5 mins. Lovely summer weather, around 22°C probably. Forecast threatened thunderstorms, but nothing nasty materialised. For those who like maps, here's an extract below :

Not really - the loops are as a result of the "go" and "return" routes not being completely identical, and the 'T" at the left hand end is because when we got back to the start we still had 6 km to go, so just cycled around a bit until we hit 100.IslandPink wrote: ↑Sun Jun 14, 2020 5:40 pm Nice work. interesting, there are a few cul-de-sacs and loops on that.
BTW. Thanks to those that sponsored Rob & Eleanor - they did the 306km course in 10hrs 17 minutes averaging 29.8kmh and 163W. Insane.
Even though the fundraising was last minute, they raised £585 for the Runnymede Trust.

I rode a bicycle today, met up with Jonny Starbux at Greenwich and we cycled back to our gaff via the Thames Path/NCN1. Very nice it was too.

Good effort Dave. Must be nice to have such flat roads ... or maybe not
Love these stats :

The only time I see 117 bpm on the watch is when I'm descending !

Ha, that's cos the Thames isn't very steep innits.
I don't know what my HR is when I'm riding, measuring it every day at the hospital job my resting HR it was very low, 48-52 bpm. I'm not as fit now so its probably terrifyingly high when I'm on Scobswell! I'm too chicken to find out...

Yeah, I know, It's been like that for years. It used to trigger the alarm on the vital signs monitors when they came in for repairs, as techs we joked that I was available as a piece of test equipment to test LHR alarm settings, the workshop had a really cool bit of Fluke test kit that could lower than I could.

Good stuff. I remember being around 42bpm when I was at my fittest in ~1990. However the pros are down in the low-30's , I also knew a very good fell runner from Borrowdale AC who claimed his resting pulse was 30.
Today , one step beyond... this was over 40 miles, and took just under 3 hours ( 2:57:30 @ 143bpm ) . Weather was interesting hot, sunny and humid at the start, then towards Corwen it looked like I was heading straight into a thunderstorm, but somehow I dodged it. Coming back it brightened up for a while and was very pleasant, but the forces of evil were massing over Denbigh as I approached, and I got doused in the last couple of miles.
Picture below shows the Southern extreme of the ride, just North of Corwen. The section of the main A5104 from Corwen to the roundabout near the Horseshoe Pass is know as 'The thirteen hills' by cyclists. I sampled three of them and turned off North.

I had some really good rides over the weekend, although it was a bit windy it was dry and at times quite sunny.
From my stats it looks like, HR wise I'm pretty much on a par with Chris Froome
I've wondered about bradycardia before as my at rest heart rate is low 50s (around 47bpm first thing) but the doctor doesn't seem concerned and nothing showed on an ecg a while back so the assumption is that my low average on my rides is just fitness. As I'm now in my 60s I was planning to get a full check done but it's been put off until the virus thing settles down.
Here's the info for Saturday's ride, a venture into West Somerset, up on the Brendon Hills;
and here's a view across from the top of the Brendon Hills towards the Bristol Channel and Wales;
The little bit of wall in the foreground is all that remains of a row of miners cottages; 150 years ago this was a major industrial site, mining iron ore that was transported dowwn to Watchet Harbout then across to Eddw Vale for smelting. the row of trees is along the oldinclined-plane and the ruins of the winding house are a short distance to the left.
Different direction on Sunday, down into South Somerset;

Now raise your power output to 254w !
Nice pictures, thanks.
More on Froome -
6ft 1"1/4
10st 5lbs.
He's definitely not normal.

Mark, I'm obviously not in the same league as Mr. Froome but comparing my Wattage from Strava to that on a spin bike in a gym they're like chalk and cheese. In the gym I can maintain 225W output for 30mins.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Has anyone heard from Mike (little Eddy) - he hasn't recorded any rides in the Audio Talk club on Strava for a couple of weeks - beginning to worry for him?
