8C seems sensible. Cycling in the freezing cold is no fun. Did a bit of that last winter, including cycling in freezing fog. It was a nightmare.

It's only 10C here ATM. Autumn Varroa Destructor treatment for bees is now finished (it's a 7 day course), so can put entrance blocks back on with mouse protectors and start feeding them again before they go to bed until the spring. Need to check that all the queens are OK as well - one last colony inspection today and that's it until March.

Winter is coming...

Just been out for an hour around the usual lanes. It was windy and Autumnal - but that's OK at this time of year !
Knee (R) is a bit unhappy. I seem to be 'managing' it at the moment. Might visit a physio soon.
I pushed it pretty hard last week in the Lakes. Two 5 1/2 hour walks - that long partly because I was going slow.
I'll see if I can post a few pics.

Haweswater on Monday morning as i approached the start of a walk up Harter Fell, Ill Bell and High Street. The ridge across the centre of this pic is the descent route - which was rough as a badgers arse and took me ages.

On Thursday ( 17th ) went up Walla crag, Bleaberry Fell and High Seat on a totally perfect day.
Shot here is the summit of High Seat ( after a very boggy trek from Bleaberry ) with Helvellyn behind, and a late afternoon shot from Bleaberry, showing Derwentwater , Bassenthwaite Lake, Keswick and Criffel in Scotland in the distance.

and some lovely retro Colnago bikes at the start of this one (it seems they need to buy a bike pump though);

Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Good effort. It was getting dark by the time I finished this evening - but that has a lot to do with starting at 9am !
Thanks for the Colnago stuff in the link above. A friend of mine was discussing a 1972 Merckx Molteni team bike the other day - it's in a museum on a col in Northern Italy - his friend had sent him some pictures while on holiday.

I'm beginning to miss the morning swim, perhaps I was a bit hasty in giving up the membership.
I'm looking out of the window and it makes me shiver inside. If it's not raining, the roads are wet, or the wind is blowing a howly, or its bluddy cold.....
so....I've been looking at spin bikes

but the feedback is all contradictory....I'm looking at magnetic resistance, but not sure if the bluetooth is worth pursuing. Has the technology moved far enough to allow spin bikes to display the route like following the road on google maps?

I'm not looking at any monthly subscriptions though.

anybody got any experience of these things?

My kids have TurboTrainers - very pleased with those... You can use your usual road bike, so the fit is right, and it dynamically adjusts rolling resistance to the profile of the course you are riding...

new bike arrived this afternoon. Had a spiffing time putting it together. Seb christened it with a quick 22mph but it soon got the better of him. So far it looks well made and the computer gizmo seems to give me all the info I need...we'll see....I had thought I'd bought a magnetic one but it turns out to be friction..Doh!

I'm not putting Harry out to grass yet, but it will give him a rest when it's cold, windy or wet.

It's only got one wheel - so it classes as a unicycle
