The Audio-Talk Cycling thread.

Go for it Shane - I thought you had taken up cyclng during the lockdown. It makes a difference - by blood pressure averages around 120/70 and my at rest pulse is around 50bpm, which are pretty good for my age (62) - there are no guarantees in life but I should be reducing my risk of a heart attack or stroke. Not only that but getting out in the countryside is good for my mental health too - it's certainly helped keep me sane with working at home during the lockdown.
Sorry, I couldn't resist!

Shame, difficult to know if things will be under control by then ...
I went for a walk today. 3hrs 4mins. It was very hot, and I got localised chafing. I might post some pictures.

Two rides this weekend.
Friday did a short one, down the main road to Rhewl ( see below ) then cut across, had to double back at one stage near Gellifor due to fallen tree branch resting on electricity cable. That was about an hour total. The first 5 miles on the main road had a superb tailwind, must have averaged about 22 or 23 mph.
Today, longer route, see below ( if you can follow the blue dashes ). This is fairly hard & hilly on the B-road at the South end. There's a hard hill out of Llanelidan that's labelled '1 in 10' on a sign at the bottom. This is a cruel trick which has taken me in before. Soon you find yourself struggling on a 1 in 6 , not in bottom gear, with no hope of engaging it. I had to walk a few yards . After that, things were fine. I think I'm getting just a little bit fitter, nevertheless.

Contour lines would help begging for detail . All those firing sounding names!

Good effort Mark, allez, allez...
I've only done just over 100 miles this week; after my crash weight loss program at the start of the week I didn't head out for a couple of days and then my legs just didn't have it - just about recovered on today's ride.

In my experience they don't make any difference at all, you still have to pedal up the hills whether there are contour lines on the map or not.

Here are the stats from today's ride;

Firing eh ?andrew Ivimey wrote: ↑Sun Jun 07, 2020 9:31 pm Contour lines would help begging for detail . All those firing sounding names!
OK OK, but today's ride was so HUGE that I had to go down to the next scale ( 1:100,000 ? ) on Streetmap, so you lose the contour lines.
Here's the hard bit at 1:50,000.
( ps. ride stats were 2hrs 18 at 141bpm )

Dear oh dear, firing = foreign.
I see, I see. We love maps here in Bedford Towers. Hooray for OS but is it that anywhere we want to go/ look at/look up is always over the fold!?
