My black commuter bike that I've just moved on from was a Giant Escape; bought it in 2007 and it was still running fine. I've donated it to a local charity so it'll give someone else some good service now.

Hard go-and-return ride with several big hills and strong head wind. Heart rate still too high. Liverton hill at 20% was probably the steepest.

Not as far as I wanted but had to be home by 12 as Sevenoaks RFC were playing to top their league. They won and are now in London Premier 1.

I've been experiencing the headwinds too Nick, and blooming cold too with it coming in from the East!

Did a 35mile loop around the old WW2 airfields up on the Blackdown Hills yesterday. I felt good ascending yesterday so I sought out some more hills today; not my best average speed but good VAM over a lumpy profile.

Hippy Burpday NdS, thats a nice present. Mines the Edge Touring, its been flippin' handy and well used. Some of the route mapping can be a bit doo-lally but on the whole its always got me home if I've ended up in unfamiliar territory.

Second proper ride on the new road bike this morning.

Hardly any wind and the sun was shining so I road my usual 'there and back' route to see what I can do. Oooh! so close to a sub one hour but still a new PB over the route and average speed.

Ho ho !
About 1 hour , lovely spring conditions in the lanes , leaves coming out, flies getting stuck in your teeth, bumblebees leaving bruises on your face etc etc. The previous time I went out, about 2 weeks ago, used the thermal longs. Yesterday, it was shorts.
Owing to being off work with stress, managed two walks and one bike ride in the last three days. I'm wondering if that means it's healthy.

This morning's ride =- not quite got the hang of the new computer as it wasn't recording the first bit (about 25 minutes) as you can see from the suspiciously straight line in the image below - we actually did 68km as the run-in and return from the meeting point to home was not included.

Stopped for tea & soup at Headcorn Aerodrome - just lovely. Like something out of the Dambusters movie - old wooden huts for the cafe with a Spitfire outside - there were two Spitfires doing some filming - one was repeatedly doing low passes at full throttle over the aerodrome and the crew were fitting cameras all over the one in the photo.

Average heart rate was 129 - I can't get my Vivoactive watch to register heartrate for the Edge 520+. So confusing.

All in all, a glorious day & super ride.

Now there’s a thing. I drove back from Kingsdon (1m from Podimore roundabout on the A303) to Newton Ferrers a couple of days ago. Almost exactly 90 miles on a beautiful spring day.
Doing that sort of journey when I was a kid usually entailed at least one stop to clear all the dead insects off the windscreen, but now, not a single one.
Better car aerodynamics, or have all the insects really gone?
The world looks so different after learning science. For example, trees are made of air, primarily. When they are burned, they go back to air, and in their flaming heat is released the flaming heat of the Sun which was bound in to convert air into tree.
