What a delightful sentiment... NOT

Still what do you do when you hit an ice patch ? I had 1.5 seconds to consider, brake, slide, fall or keep going, slide and fall or just resign myself to the inevitable. I'm badly bruised and both my thumbs are hurting badly; one's bleeding, but they're not broken.

So only ten miles. I dreamed of more.

Tricky business. I remember a ride years ago from Leeds on a bright morning after frost.
I made it across about 4 ice patches OK by riding straight & not pedalling. The next one I cam across I was pretty confident but it turned out it was about the size of a Buick, and half way across it was like one of those cartoon episodes where it all comes crashing down. I was quite thin and rubbery back then, so no damage was done.

Are you seeing double then ? :D

I'm enjoying a quiet cuppa and then I'll stoke the boiler for a bath.

Wow sorry about that Andrew. :(

No 2 wheels and wet ice are not normally compatible.

Thanks Mike. It is bizarre that both thumbs really hurt. The bruises are just that.

I am all wrinkly now but must get my gladrags on as to The Ball (ENT Xmas Do) awaits. Dance till dawn! Dead can dance! A little medicinal brandy in my champagne will work wonders!!!

Sorry to hear about your fall from grace Andrew - we don't heal as quickly now so take care. Hope you can have a good time at the dance - maybe best to avoid the Lambeth Walk though.

Re the thumbs, badly strained my right thumb when I had an accident on my BMW R80 back in 2001, minibus pulled out in front of me and stopped blocking half the road, didn’t quite manage to miss altho I tried. It was my hand being pushed into the handlebar.

Ouch! Sorry to hear of your woes after finding the ice monster. Avoid hitchhiking for a while, that'll help your thumbs healquicker, I used to work with Doctors y'know who know about this sort of thing.

In other cycle related stuff, I like this picture.
