Why would anyone think that was a good idea?

Why not ? Just because it's easy to see the disadvantages does not make it a bad idea.

No worst than a metal can full of petrol between your knees on a motorbike.
Whenever an honest man discovers that he's mistaken, he will either cease to be mistaken or he will cease to be honest.

The folk buying electric cycles may disagree.Because it offers no advantages

That's precisely my point; if you want a powered bike then an electric one is far more efficient, far safer, gives you instant power and so on...

So the advantage is that it exercises the brain trying to imagine advantages...

Have you never wanted anything simply because it can be done ?
It's emotion based rather than just being rational.
I could be rational and think about ALL the very many disadvantages of riding a motorcycle, but the fact it gives me great pleasure overcomes (at times) rational thought.

Of course, absolutely, all the time and I understand it from that perspective and I admire the dedication and engineering the guy has put into his project. But you can never completely remove the rational side of things, especially if you want to live a long and happy life, and this really does seem to be a 'because I can' project that is technologically primitive compared with a modern e-bike.pre65 wrote: ↑Tue Jan 14, 2020 10:01 pm Have you never wanted anything simply because it can be done ?

The first F1 car I worked on had an auxiliary fuel tank under the driver’s genitals. To add insult to injury, the access plate that his bits rested on was magnesium. Of course he was wearing a fireproof race suit, but still, if you’ve ever seen magnesium burn......thankfully the FIA banned such foolishness soon afterwards.

the seat backrest on my first microlight was a 7 gallon plastic fuel tank.......funnily enough I never gave it a thought at the time, I was thinking about other things.

Ha ha ha! I didnt think this thread would be so interesting.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

And hooray for that say Iand this really does seem to be a 'because I can' project that is technologically primitive compared with a modern e-bike.
Meanwhile, How is the cathode follower valve "power amp" doing Ray? Remind me again just what the advantages are?
