Very nice image.

One of my colleagues here swam from there to North Africa. Twice.

The first time he got to a mile offshore and the tide changed so he had to go back. Tried again a week later and landed ok. Madness.

He was also one of the Bosphorus swim group.

Never landed there - sailed past it though, in a small yacht my sister and I were taking from the West of Scotland to Malta.

When my lad was 10 yrs we visited Tarifa, the nearest part of Europe to Africa. I told him not to be too surprised to find a dead migrant washed up on the beach. I did overstate the risk at the time - poor boy. It is terrible that boat owners sometimes push migrants into the water a mile off the coast whether or not they can swim.

Aye, the idea is that as we head towards old age and decrepitude, we can have, in the first instance, a handrail either side of the staircase, then the inevitable Stanna stairlift.

Funny you should mention in-wall speakers Ali. You may remember me talking about building speakers into the alcoves, either side of the fireplace. That is now going to happen. A new pair of Fane 12" full rangers in the alcoves will give 200L per side with golden ratio sealed cabs disguised as Victorian base cupboards. Shelving units will go above the "cupboards" to house hi-fi, books etc.

Nice one Steve, sounds like a great idea, will that be a bigger cab than you used before?

Yes, just over twice the size. Driver resonance freq won't drop all that much, but Q will go down a bit.

You know that Gene Pitney song, 24 Hours From Tulsa, when he says, "I was only 24 hours from Tulsa", where was he? Bearing in mind he was driving. So wherever it was, it had to be a day's drive by car.
