Nothing In Particular
#11401 Re: Nothing In Particular
Listening at the moment to Eds pass B1 buffer pre, it's a very interesting little thing.
Seems to give the f5 a kick up the arse.
It doesn't seem to do subtle quite like the khozmo passive, but then again, there isn't a few hundred quids worth of bits in it......
And Ed said its only been used a couple of times in the last 10 years, so it might want some hours on it for it to bed itsself back in
I'll carry on listening and enjoying

Really need to get myself some new cables. They are all just any old shite I had laying around, or bits of spare cable with phono plugs grafted on when I ran out of cables.
Look at em funny, move em slightly, and there are bursts of hum and noise.
Probably all the plugs are shagged out and the solder joints are dry/cracked/intermittent from 20 years of being plugged in and pulled out.
I must admit that I can't remember the last time I bought a pair of cables, I think I was still living with mi mam and dad when I did......... So it's been a while.
Any recommendations for reasonable cables that are reasonable money? Buying a new loom won't be cheap whatever I go with, as there are a lot of shonky old cables to replace

TBH, I mostly use Amazon Basics cables now - they are cheap and pretty good quality, plus you can return them if any problems (or you just don't like them).
Their speaker cable is really not bad and I just stick decent banana plugs or whatever on them. Their other cables, e.g. phono/RCA stuff isn't bad either, likewise the HDMI/DP stuff.

Bluddy hell, just spilt a bottle of beer over my Macbook Pro.
Thank gawd it had a keyboard cover on it, stopped the beer getting into the gizzards.
Been a while since I moved that fast.

This is the speaker cable and plugs I'm using:
Yes, the speaker cable is copper-plated aluminium, but it's pretty good.
There's some nice pure OFC Cu cables there too. e.g.:

Ant, if you want to build your own new interconnects, I have here just over four metres of Sharkwire (blue) Superior Definition OFC 41/0.12mm signal cable No.SG12E2. Shielded twin core. This was well regarded back in the day when I bought it from Maplin. You are welcome to it free gratis. Just PM me to remind me of your address and I’ll post to you.

Just gone back over to the khozmo passive from Eds b1.
A more couth and relaxing listen, more natural, but missing the kick up the arse, the immediacy and poke that the b1 gives. And the extra bass heft it gives which I was expecting
I was getting abit fatigued with the b1, but I'm sure that that can be tweaked out of the b1 with a few component changes
Alas it ain't mine so I'm not about to go poking around in it and alter anything, (other than adding the power switch which I did after asking first) and it doesn't alter the fact that it is a very impressive little thing, especially given that it's the original circuit down to the 25k linear maplins pot.
I can definitely see why so many people swear by these
I think i'll definitely have to get myself a board to play with
Next thing to try is to use it as a straight buffer with the pot wide open and see what it sounds like with the khozmo in front of it

Seems better, p'raps that 25k Lin pot has some hardness to it that I was hearing, course it could be the effect of the extra set of cables...
