The joys of Excel. Looking at the results below, the votes required per seat under the first-past-the-post system are insane and deeply favour the main parties. Note that under PR, the SNP would lose 23 seats, the Lib Dems would gain 64 and the Tories wouldn't have an overall majority...

...and the SNP would learn the truth about how over-represented they are currently at Westminster :)

I wondered if anyone would make the link :-).

FPTP seems archaic and unrepresentative. But PR means that there would probably never be a majority, so we'd be imersed in the world of coalitions, deals and brinkmanship. A bit like what we've just had. I guess we'd get used to it, and other countries seem to manage okay, but it does seem to have its own challenges.

Not sure what the answer is really.

Can analysis be worthwhile?

Nope. It's pointless. At least for the foreseeable future... I just felt the need to whip the BBC table into Excel and play...

IMHO, PR would lead to the need for consensus to get stuff done instead of the adversarial approach that we have at the moment. It was interesting to see how PR worked for the EU elections, but it needs fewer voting regions (seats) than we currently have.

Also that Keir Starmer is currently the bookies favourite to take over the leadership.

Sorry Nick, couldn’t resist the juxtaposition of your post and Simon’s!

Yes, we speak of things that matter

PR yes. But Boris is going to do that isn't he.

The party that introduces PR will never be the govt, surely, so.... this party will never be the govt.
Philosophers have only interpreted the world - the point, however, is to change it. No it isn't ... maybe we should leave it alone for a while.

Got home from the bowls club Christmas dinner, and I'm completely stuffed. Shan't be going to bye-byes for a while.

I received a cup for winning the drawn pairs, second time it's had my name on it. :D :D

I've purchased a Musical Fidelity B1 amp, it's a bit bashed about with one end cheek missing, and might even work.

It's been delivered but not unpacked yet, hopefully tomorrow.
