Yes the Lexus system is much the same from what I read. Yeah also looking forward to the gobs of immediately available torque.simon wrote: ↑Mon Aug 05, 2019 5:26 pmNot sure it'll work quite like that. Yes the hybrid plant switches off when you come to a halt, and mine will run on the battery upto about 25mph if I'm light on the accelerator. But the battery will discharge reasonably quickly, especially at higher speeds and the engine kicks in to recharge the battery anyway. So there's no free lunch, but the system is clever enough to save a lot of fuel. I can do 3 or 4 mile runs across town at 90odd mpg, especially if the engine's warm. I think this is where the hybrids excel, I think it's less clear cut on motorways where turbo diesels start to come into their own.
I think they do encourage the driver to drive more efficiently - I'm always trying to beat a certain target, just one of those things. But then put it in sport mode and look at the surprise on people's faces .

The problem with petrol is not (AFAIK) the cleanness of the emissions, its that its not carbon neutral.

Its not without problems though.
That distance is seen as a conn for EV'sPROS.
Long Driving Range. With a full tank of hydrogen gas, you can travel nearly 300 miles. ...
Generally I think the best way of transporting hydrogen for transport is to bond it carbon.

I've read a few articles on ionic fluids, seems it could perhaps be a viable fuel in the future.

Utterly simplistic and totally misses the issues of production, handling, transportation storage and possible environmental issues when mass uptake occurs.
Only the Sith deal in absolutes.

Same company AFAIK so it'll be the same hybrid system I'd guess.

1800cc. They used to be 1500 but were underpowered. The 1800 engine with the improved hybrid system now is a nice balance. Never going to be a petrolhead's dream though.

Still quite pokey though i’d imagine?
Still tempted by the XF though. Just waiting for the garage to get back to me, if they can’t source a Lexus, I’ll take the XF they have in stock.

Yeah, especially in sport mode at lower speeds.

Well it all went pear shaped lol. No Lexus, and the XF had sold and so had the Merc I had my eye on, so picking up a 535d tomorrow.

If you want to talk about Range and Carbon Neutral,
Have a look at a few of Dave the Bass's Cycle Data Posts and his Lunch Break Images.
He is doing about 50 Miles around Town on a Packet of Crisps and a Pork Pie, I don't remember seeing a bottle of Ionic Drink, with such economy with a Eco sustainable fuel, the future has got to be looking Rosie.
