What fun you do have :D
Do I detect irony? :)

The object is, strangely, not to get stuck. But you do learn a lot for unsticking yourself (or other people's cars) - recovering a stuck vehicle can be complex and experience is everything.

We got my car out in about 30 minutes using two vehicles and a pulley block - the winch cable from one went through the pulley to the second car. A kinetic strop was then taken from the pulley to my car - this gives a 2-to-1 mechanical advantage - lowers the stress on the winch cable and provides twice the anchor weight - my car weighed more than the car pulling me out - what was happening was that he was being dragged towards me, then my winch cable snapped.

Plan B worked really well...

Last week, late in the day, we were on our way out of the desert - about 5 km from the exit point (the nearest road) and had just come over some massive dunes (about 70 - 80ft tall) when, looking back, one of the drivers saw someone waving. He waved back, then realised the other chappie was in a spot of bother. :)

High up on the dune, in front of a huge steep drop, there was a stuck RangeRover. One of the marshals tried to drive up to see what the problem was, and promptly got stuck himself (I winched him out).

The rest of us (about 7) then trudged up this enormous dune to see what the problem was.

This guy, a local, had gone into the desert on his own (error #1), no shovel (#2), no tow points on car (#3), non-deflated tyres (#4), road tyres (#5), no VHF radio (#6), NO WATER (errors #7 - #15), his wife & baby child in the back (errors #16 - #97). Amazingly, he was a local. New car, still with the sticky plastic over the wood trim etc. Buried up to axles. Totally stuck.

Took nearly 2 1/2 hours to get him out. Twit.

I am reminded of an episode of The Troubleshooters (old 1960's drama series) this guy got lost on his own in the Sahara with a Land Rover, ran out of petrol, ended up drinking the water out the radiator while waiting to be rescued, except no one knew where he was cos he didn't follow advice, as the Aussies say he did a bit of a perish.

Bit of trivia:

"Sahra" is Arabic for "sand" or "desert". The "h" is hard, so it's correctly pronounced SaH-ra.
"Sahara" is the plural, i.e. lots of deserts ..

The local bedu don't see a single desert, they see hundreds of connected deserts each with their own character... Hence "deserts"(plural).

In the above story, the little shit never even thanked us - just drove off...

Goldring e3.
Quite possibly the most boring cartridge I have ever heard here..
Even the missus who has cloth ears and doesn't care noticed it within 2 tracks on tango in the night. Asked if I could do anything to it to make it nicer
On the jvc, compared to the at440, it has piss all in the way of life. None. Zip.
Dont like it. As dead and joyless as Stalin's underpants.....
I bet those phono stages we played with a while back, especially the cole lcr and the twin turbo nva phono 2 would have been spectacular with the at440 or the 150 on the end of them. It doesnt do anything wrong, but it doesn't do 'it'

Come back at440!

Done some thinking on this. There must be a reason I don't like it. Ive got tango in the night on on the lenco with at150 instead
I think what it is is that there is a very clear start and stop to every note, drum hit, voice ect, with the 150. Decay is decay, its there until it isnt, the layers are clearly delineated. There is an immediacy and a precision that the e3 simply hasn't got. It doesn't have a clear stop from one note and a clear start to the next. An analogy to explain what I mean is playing 2 notes on the same string on a guitar. Play one, then play the other. The at plays one then the other. The e3 can't be arsed to completely remove its hand up the fretboard, so it let's off the pressure and slides up the fret board instead. Theres not a clear start and stop. Things seem to become a little amorphous, a little imprecise.

Its as if it cant really be arsed..... If that makes sense....

I'm at Potters holiday resort (Hopton-on-sea) this week for a bowls break.

Internet access is poor, so can't get online much.

Having a good time, won £120 on the bingo last night. :D :D :D :D :D

Near Great Yarmouth!

I've been in Welsh Wales last couple of days, near Dolgellau.

Overheard the first night in the restaurant:

"We went, and they came, and they came again?"

No, have no idea what about.

(Might have been holidays abroad tho.)
